57peppershaker Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 Hi Guys Anybody put a late model LS into a Revell 57 Chevy (sedan or convertable) Its something i keep thinking about as have both on the shelf. Pics and info would really help.
Force Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 It should be like any other engine swap, it's just a matter of testing and trying and see how it fits.

Yup. The engines are physically of similar size, the engine mounts are in about the same place as most smallblock Chevy engines (the '57 Chevy uses front mounts, while the vast majority of smallblock Chevy mills use side mounts), and in the real-world, GM even kept the same bellhousing bolt pattern, so older gearboxes will bolt up. Pay attention to the routing and positioning of radiator hoses, and that's about it. Edited April 5, 2020 by Ace-Garageguy
Force Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 (edited) Side mount conversion kits for 55-57 Chevys are available...for real cars that is. The 55-57 has two engine mounts at the front and two at the back of the bell housing, no transmission mount or cross member under the transmission so it hangs free. The conversion kits available includes side engine mounts and a cross member with a transmission mount that bolts to the frame so you can put more modern engines and transmissions in the car, the rear bell housing side mounts on the frame can be cut off as they are not needed with this setup. But (unlike the real cars), you could get away with some dremel work if need be (if it is a problem). Transmission cross brace is the usual piece you may have to tweak despite motor mounting.
Ctmodeler Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 Working on something kinda similar. A v10 viper into a 64 belvedere. Yeah the Dremel on the tranny top makes it fit better for sure ! Lol
57peppershaker Posted April 7, 2020 Author Posted April 7, 2020 Thanks Gents. I kmow all about the 1:1 kits, tho some brands are better than others. Anybody got a pic of a completed LS swopped model ?
Erik Smith Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 LS9 into a 66 Riviera. No issues at all. Engines are more or less similar in size. Transmission is 6 speed auto from 2010 Camaro. LS9 is from Revell Corvette ZR1.
57peppershaker Posted April 9, 2020 Author Posted April 9, 2020 Thanks Eric. Looks fantastic in there.
