Gumball Posted May 14, 2020 Author Posted May 14, 2020 (edited) In my search for the original chrome bits, and perhaps some glass, I managed to stumble across the chassis! Although I couldn't find anything else belonging to the kit. I also only just discovered that I made the cylender head with only 7 spark plug holes instead of 8, so I redid the cylender head. I guess this kit has become less of a 90% scratch build, and more of a 50-60% scratch. That is unless I soup up the chassis. Edited May 14, 2020 by Gumball

Russell C Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 Got the maroon molded version for myself as a really cheap gluebomb off ebay a couple of years ago, since at the very least I could use the straight 8 in some project, plus I like the chopped-looking roof.

On the other hand, maybe some little green men could have come out of hiding to mess with his model kits? sadly right now this isn't a possibility to me, I left my tinfoil hat back at home... ? It's a fair cop!

That and the long sloped front fenders, its really a good looking car. ill be interested on seeing what you do with yours if you post it on the forum.
Gumball Posted May 15, 2020 Author Posted May 15, 2020 (edited) Here's another update on the engine. Looking at the kit it appears that the original engines oil pan sat flat on the frame with these large plastic pieces there as well. Now looking at the original car it seems that the engine mounts to the frame both off the bell housing and from the front of the engine forwards to the frame support. I'll probably end up cutting these two large plastic pieces out (I taped in green) so I can mount the engine more accurately. Still no find on the grill, I may start to reach out to our freind Eric Macleod for some spares. Other then that the oil pan, timing cover, cylender head, and water pump is starting to take shape, however the supercharger cover whachya macallit part of the timing cover looks like it sticks out a little far. I should get my act together and get moving on the project, more of a street rod, but not where it is identifiable as a Mercedes. Look out for a PM, in case you might need the parts I won't be using.

Gumball Posted May 17, 2020 Author Posted May 17, 2020 (edited) I give you colour! And some chassis updates. Engine oil pan no lo Ger sits on the chassis! And yes I got a spot of red on the waterpump just don't look at it and it will be fine. Edited May 18, 2020 by Gumball
Gumball Posted May 18, 2020 Author Posted May 18, 2020 (edited) Some more updates. Body is primed and about 50% painted. The red paint sadly turned out more like an orange, I'm considering just airbrushing it quick. And ya I know u should strip the paint but rn I do t have any paint stripper, hopefully the paint won'tend up super thick. Luckily so far the amount of paint is minimal compared to the umpteen layers of paint on the sunbeam corvette... Yeah never again! I have a picture of a painted piece of styreene painted Tamiya red which is what I would airbrush it with if it's better to do a redo on the paint. Edited May 18, 2020 by Gumball
Gumball Posted May 18, 2020 Author Posted May 18, 2020 (edited) Touched up the paint, still about 50% done. Going to need a good clear coat. And yes its going to be another 2 tone... I just love the 2 tone. Edited May 18, 2020 by Gumball
Gumball Posted May 19, 2020 Author Posted May 19, 2020 Two tone is now done! Now just for the silver stripping to separate the two colours! I'm probably like 80% complete on the paint now. Also started to get the front end more together, a little more like the original now.
Gumball Posted May 19, 2020 Author Posted May 19, 2020 Painted one silver trim. I'm starting to like this car more and more! Pretty soon I'll start speaking German! I'm also considering throwing in some old woodlight headlights for that extra "je ne sais quoi" but that will all come down to whether or not I can scratch make some. It will look good non the less!
Gumball Posted May 20, 2020 Author Posted May 20, 2020 What in the? Clearly im building this wrong, now that's how you build a luxury car!

Eric Macleod Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 I probably have every piece of chrome you need. Will get it out shortly. I like your color choices.
sjordan2 Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 I like the color scheme. Much like a Bugatti Atalante.

Awesome! sounds good keep in touch! 6 hours ago, sjordan2 said: I like the color scheme. Much like a Bugatti Atalante. I agree, looks good, that was until the clear coat crinkled all across the black... not the red even though both the black, red, and clear coat are water based. hopefully I will be able to sand it and straighten it out without taking off any of the paint under the clear coat.
Gumball Posted May 29, 2020 Author Posted May 29, 2020 (edited) So just a bit of an update. I'm starting to think that perhaps the border not opening up is the meaning behind me not getting any mail. Regardless just a little update on the chassis, and I finally got to sanding the cracked paint on the body. Like I said before aboth the red and black was water based as well as the clear coat, just kinda strange that it crinkled. Once again solder saved the day I guess when I made some front springs. I yet need to make a transmission so comming soon. Woodlight headlights are comming along, I'm attempting to mold my own but iv only started on the fist positive which is just a lump of Jb weld.
