Thanks Kenneth and John!  I am probably making a bigger deal out of this than it actually is.  Sometimes, I do this or the instructions (which I usually glance at) don't explain the procedure well.

Another hurdle out of the way!  I figured out a way to effectively paint the taillights by using a black felt tip pen and marking the blacked out areas of the taillights on one side and then painting the backside with Tamiya X-27 Clear Red.  Then I glued the lenses to the chrome backings when the clear red dried.  It's not perfect, but it is done.

Thanks randyc!  I'm more into straight lines than complex curves that I am bound to screw up.  My sanity can rest easy now...

I got behind a street version mustang this morning that has all the same elements as the racer.  Taillights just look red.  Not a lot of black divider showing up anyway.  Yours look fine

I had stopped at the grocery store yesterday to get some beer and when I parked the car, I was next to an all black 2020 Shelby GT350!  When I came out of the store, the owner was just finishing putting his groceries into his Shelby and we got to talking.  He has had the car for a couple of weeks and he is still discovering some of the various little bits and features to the car.  He said he would rather drive it.  The owners manual is two inches thick!  He got in it, started it up and ohh...what a glorious sound it made and that was with the exhaust system in the regular mode.  He hit a switch and the exhaust system changed note and WOW!!!  It sounded great for pissing off the neighbors!  I would rather listen to that Shelby than any of the Harleys that run by the house daily!

Oh heck yeah.  I remember hearing a Ducati for the first time.  A 90° V engine of any number is so much sweeter than a Harley.  I bet that was a cool car.

I got my kit yesterday.  Ordered the indycals white/red motorcraft set.  I can start work and just work towards the white body till the decals come in if they take a while.

Can't wait to get really started on it.  Maybe tomorrow...

RandyC- Indycals are great. I bought the Volt set plus three others from them. I'm presently working on the Volt. The decals are thin but strong and workable. They are printed on the paper as one sheet so you must cut them out close to the print. I like to leave a little edge around them. Also I've used MicroSol on them with no reaction. Good Luck. Hope to see some pictures.

When I get started for real I will post up.  And thanks for the tip about the indycals.  I think I read that on thier site too.   Fred Cady deals were printed similarly, but each color layer is separate and you have to build them up - you should try a set of those sometime if you have never.   Harder to find now but out there still.  And good about the Micro Sol.  All I have is Sol and Set, so that's good to know.

Glad you found a solution for the tail lights, Mike.  They came out looking good.  And oh yes I agree, do those GT350's sound ever so glorious.  Absolute music to the ears.

Thanks guys!  Grey is not one of my favorite car colors, but it is a trending color right now.  I'm starting to see this color on the road on various new vehicles.  I need to sit down with the decal sheet and a bowl of warm water and start adding decals.

I started mine this weekend.  Very impatiently and now I have to fix some of that.   Had a bad primer reaction.   Waiting for it to cure more.   Did get some other stuff going on it.  Not ready for a thread yet, not that there is much to post, since this car is getting a lof of attention.   I am using Indycals Motorcraft sheet, so that will be something.  Just can't bring myself to do a gray race car.  Race cars are supposed to be colorful, vibrant.

I agree that race cars should be colorful and vibrant, but with the grey paint, it is the graphics that make that paint color exciting.  Grey is a subdued color and it seems to be trending at the moment.

Mine went to the purple pond last night.   While I was sanding, I noticed that the paint would still scrape off the plastic, so I thought that might be easier than scraping and sanding both kits I messed up the primer on.

But even the graphics on the gray and white cars are so minimal... I just needed more.  Didn't want to do the blue paint on the retro 7/11 Lyn St James version, so went with the Motorcraft.   Figuring that these cars are shipped as "body in white" and graphics applied from there.  This is same car as the other white one maybe?  So I can build towards a white car while waiting on the decals.   Of course, the paint issues have cancelled that out now.

Randy, it seems that you don't want to show the "oops" on your WIP thread.  While I am not proud of my "oops", I do show them hoping that others would see what I did and maybe they can avoid that issue if it comes to that point for them.

It doesn't take a lot of graphics to make a paint job look stunning!  The right colors in the right places and WOW!  Some people prefer a lot of graphics and some don't.  It depends upon your point of view.

My OOPS is in the "Primer to avoid" thread in another section.  Other than that, I really don't have anything to show yet.   I did go home and get the GT4 and the SS396 out of purple pond - they cleaned right up.   Have to see how bad the plastic is affected by the primer and how that turns out.  That may be a learning moment worth sharing.    They were still drying out last night so hard to tell just yet.   And then starting over from scratch and doing it the RIGHT way this time.   Maybe decals will be here by then to show with it.

Probably be Saturday before I get back to modeling.  We start our weekly "family nights" on Wednesday.  Tonight with my kids, then MIL with a bit of dementia throughout the weekend.   Saturday and Sunday morning hopefully will be cool enough to get to building.   Buidling gets to high 80s by about 10 am.  It just HOLDS the heat.

I'll get it on track soon.   Thanks for your encouragement.

My pleasure, Randy!  I'm looking forward to your build, whenever you get around to it!

I started the task of decaling the Mustang GT4 today.  And, I have a long way to go.

The decals are on and complete!  Yes.  I know I used the wrong decals for the front wing spoilers.  I had issues with the correct decals and used these instead.  A quick mockup and then cleanup, touchup and final assembly!
