I don't believe there is any difference externally.

I used the 390 from the AMT '67 Mercury Cyclone kit to represent a 427 R-code in my '67 Galaxie.

If I recall correctly from that project, they are basically the same.

The 390 and 427 are both in the FE ( Ford Edsel ) engine family ( 352 - 360 - 390 - 427 - 428 ) . I'm not aware of any noticeable-in-scale differences between the different displacements ; usually the induction systems are subjective ( three Holley 2 Bbl , single 4 Bbl , or dual 4 Bbl ) .

And, there's always the cammer.... ?

Curious, what kit I could find the cammer in or hopefully just a complete engine?

Is there a difference externally, between the 390 and 427?  If yes, would it be noticeable in 1/25 scale.

Trevor

No not much, some of the 406 and all of the 427 engine has the three middle mains cross bolted and screwed in core plugs, and of course the Side Oiler has an oil gallery down low on the drivers side of the engine block...otherwise they are pretty much the same.
These things are not that visible, at least not on a model.

The engine was available with low-rise, medium-rise, or high-rise heads, and either single or double four-barrel carburetors on an aluminum manifold matched to each head design.
