Not all Weber side draft carbs are created equal - these - by SP - are correct for many of the private team Lotus 18s - including the Moss Monaco winner … the manifold is angled up to allow the carbs to clear the horizontal frame member -

The Moss car needs a special gear selector casing that teams used with the Collotti transaxle  -  this is mounted on the right side of the cockpit - team Lotus used a different setup for their gearbox choices.

The frame adjustments result in the top frame member taking a detour past the engine bulkhead - supposed to be straight back -

There won't be much of the original kit left when you cross the finish line Andrew, can we call that improvements or is it attention to detail?

Maybe it's love, it makes you do crazy things! 😁

I think that this is a good explanation, but perhaps in a less classic way we could cite: "You Can Do Magic"

America 1982 View from the ground album

Track 1  .... 😁

Gear selector casing with frame plate and added bolts and a reverse gear  lock-out clip … dress in should work for the shifter …

I had put this one aside years [and years] ago - Matt Bacon has posted a number of White metal kit builds - but not the Lotus 38 Clark Indy winner - its getting a little hard to find/buy like the other Auto-kits open wheelers - it’s a curbside - i’m going to apply some new found - thanks Matt - lo temp  soldering skills - and i’ve got the engine …

The nose needed some surgery - cut apart and put back together following 24th scale outline drawings made by the late Bob Clidinst - but putty shrinkage has left me with some surfaces that are relatively flat - needing correction …

I’ve “re-skinned” the monocoque - this was actually Lotus’ first full monocoque design - to make more accurate rivet lines … i can add the rivets later - probably the Archer rivet lines decals - when i put the build aside i had gaps that i couldn’t bond well along the top/bottom seams ….  Gaps that would surely open at the wrong time - like after i had finished the paint …

The low temp solder used in the Lotus 25 build was applied along the seams - it didn’t flow well into the seams - gaps - but i manged to apply enough solder to secure - i think - the seams …

This is a familiar picture to the vets - maybe not to the newbees ??  One of my favorite all time race car shots …. Name the magazine and the year - and what the hell - the issue -

Thats it? You'd think there would be many more. You almost have that many that you have scratch built. I'm guessing "Sports Car Graphic" but have no idea what issue. Sometime after that car won the Indy 500.  1965, maybe?

Will make - finish - and glue the bulkhead and driving compartment side panels in at an early stage - so i can then build out the left and right engine compartment “horns”  - this added detail is needed to turn this fr a curbside into a detailed 38 -

So I’ll have to make and attach the instr dash at an early stage - one of the nice things about wh metal is that you can polish parts to get a nice finished shine on certain features - like the gauge rings …
