bobss396 Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 This I had just finished for the show last week, didn't win anything but at least I finished one in 2008. Bob
rv1963 Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Nice work on your Ford Coupe i saw it at the show and it looks just as good in person.
ChevyFan Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Not a big fan of the colour personally, but looks pretty schmick though. Nice glass finish and the details are excellent. I have one of these that I have been thinking about re-painting etc. I'm thinking now that it might have to make it back onto the bench. Dagnam it, now I need a bigger bench.
RyanSilva Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 You shoulda won something, i love it! I love the color to..
Geezerman Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Nice 'n clean. great color and well detailed. Good work !
Peter Lombardo Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Very nice work Bob…I really like the white background in the engine compartment. It makes the engine and detailing really jump out. The rather “plain†exterior paint (and I do not mean that in a demeaning way) helps to draw your eye to the interior and engine. I like it very much…oh yeah, very nice period correct wheels too.
Eshaver Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 BOB, YOU SHOUDDA WON , FIRST IT HAS DE RIGHT MOTA! Second the Brown, hey how son we forget , seems that metallic Brown was the number two selling color on Generic motors cars in the Gulf coast 1977-79.............. jus my thoughts Ed Shaver
bobss396 Posted November 12, 2008 Author Posted November 12, 2008 Thanks for the nice comments. I figured it may have been good for a 3rd on the outside. But there were so many mind blowing builds on the table that day that beat it. I build what I like anyway. It was my first full tilt flathead attempt and I learned a lot doing it. The intention was to depict a period correct rod. One judge knocked it down for not having a urethane shine to it, but that would have been wrong to what I was doing. Some people have no clue to what they're looking at anyway. I did some different things that I haven't tried before. The trim rings are turned aluminum items I made up and had nickel plated, which goes with the body color. I used one of Norm's crab style distributors, beehive oil filters and dipsticks. I'll have to take more pictures and post them when I get a chance. Bob
cruz Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Saw this at the show and thought it was very cool, I liked it in that color. I myself was not satisfied with the judging, I thought they should have checked some models a little more carefully but what the heck, I had a lot of fun anyway.....

I was one of the judges and didn't like some of what was going on. I was overruled on a few things that I thought were the right choice. Some of the orders of winners got mixed up and is being straightened out or already has been fixed. I'm not sure if I'll volunteer to judge the contest in the future. I'm glad that you had a good time though, it was a pretty good modeling day. Bob

I thank you guys for the effort of putting the show together, that alone is a feat in itself. There will be other shows and other times to compete, overall I still think it was a good show and will probably be there next year to compete....
John Goschke Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Looks nice to me. I like to color and your engine compartment detailing looks great! Don't worry 'bout the steenkin' judges.
Raul_Perez Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Bob, One picture just doesn't get it done!! Show us MORE!! Thanks for sharing,
MarkJ Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 The finish looks excellent to me. I don't see how it could be any shinier. By the way what kind of paint did you use and clear coat if any?
FloridaBoy Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Bobss What a beaut!!!!! I am an ummitigated lover of the 1940 Ford Coupe, both the AMT and Revell. I have built over 100 of them in my life, and my first one was off the 1960 production run. I still have because I revere this model so well, and original AMT 40 Ford coupe kit still on the sprues intact. I always felt as long as I have one forty, I always have something to do, as the model hiatus in the seventies really scared me about availabiltiy. Now about your model. You captured the feeling of the forty extremely well. If I had a color chart I probably would have never selected that brown shade but it is very beautiful. I also noticed you took the trouble to erase all of the molded on firewall stuff, added your own components and detailing, which is extremely effective. It is also very clean which enhances the forty as well. I sure don't know why it didn't place, for if it survives the picture, it is certainly better in person. Way to go. As for the judging comments, if anyone wants a copy of my 10 point system please PM me, and I will send you a copy for about every category. Guarenteed to eliminate second guessing and comments and questions of judging. It is based on a total 100 points per car, with 10 or more or less points for each category, workmanship, finish, attention to detail, and one category for wow factor for the judge. You got a 10 wow factor on this forty from me, Bob. Ken "FloridaBoy" Willaman
