What follows....the bodywork needed to bring one of these to paint ready status is fiddly, complicated, and a real marathon. Been here, done that. These two were done to show different two different approaches to chopping the tops, and were included in the now infamous "Chopped Mercs" issue of Scale Auto Enthusiast back in 1983....(sheesh...that's 42 years ago. Yikes!) This one actually used the MPC snap kit '50 Merc as he basis, and included other tricks like the filled door panel hump and so forth... This one also included a sectioning job IIRC... Ron Hamilton Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Back in the late 1980s, I belonged to a model club, where there were several accomplished builders. A couple of them built a couple of interesting chopped AMT 49 Mercury Coupes. One of them knew my building style, and flatly told me that I could not accomplish the building of an aestihcally correct one. Meanwhile, I was looking through some magaz, and saw a Joe Ballion Tutorial on how to fo a one-to-one car. I did mine based on how he did his car. I think it came out great. I may do another 3

Chopping a 49 Merc is not easy, but with some planning and patience it can be accomplished with very satisfying results. I've ruined a few Mercs before I was able to get one that I liked lol This is my most recent one: 3 1
