miatamadman Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I built this GT500 Convertible after painting the hardtop body. Very little repainting was repainting was required after the conversion. I used numerous pics as a guide for the detailing of the engine and interior. I molded the rear roof stack using a 2 part epoxy putty. The texture was created with Testors fabric paint. The body is painted with Testors Grabber orange and the main body stripes are painted on with Tamiya semi-gloss back. The side stripes are computer generated and were printed with a laser printer. The entire body was then cleared with Testors Ultra Gloss clear. I also had to lower the suspension quite a bit since these Mustangs built right from the box sit way too high. These wheels and tires and brakes are from the AMT Concept Camaro. I ground off the Chevy emblem and made a new center cap, added wheel weights and valve stems. A few wires and extra hoses brings the engine to life The style bar was sourced from an older Monogram Saleen Mustang And here's a group shop of some other modded mustangs from the shop Messages In This Thread
E St. Kruiser50 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Nice conversion and great detailing I especially like the interior being two-toned and the added details, including the rollover bar, but the exterior is very well done also. Very, very nice build, and I like your stable of other nice "Stangs" - Dave
Harry P. Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Looks fantastic, excellent job! But why in the world would you paint the body first, then chop off the roof???
kevin Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 NICE WORK! We were looking for someone to make the master of the shelby convertible to cast, would you be interested? Kevin, Missinglinkrc.com
miatamadman Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 Looks fantastic, excellent job! But why in the world would you paint the body first, then chop off the roof??? I had already painted the body, when my modelers ADD kicked in , and before I knew it, I had cut the roof off.
bsoder Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I had already painted the body, when my modelers ADD kicked in , and before I knew it, I had cut the roof off. Hate it when that happens ...but I gotta say that turned out great!!..beautiful job.
Raul_Perez Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I had already painted the body, when my modelers ADD kicked in , and before I knew it, I had cut the roof off. And I thought I was bad by taking the saw to mine after it was in primer... That's a really nice set of custom Mustangs you've built!! Keep up the GREAT work,
Peter Lombardo Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Great looking Mustangs. The convertible conversion is first rate, but I really like the T Top model…..I know T Tops were an 80’s thing….but that looks just so right on that car. The roll bar and the Camaro wheels look perfect on the car. Very innovative build’s. But I have to agree with Harry, why cut the top after painting...why not just pickup a new model and rework that body....no matter, great job, before of after paint.
bandit.93 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Wow Looks good I think you just gave me a wheel idea for my GT500 Did the wheels and brakes go on pretty easily?
miatamadman Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 Wow Looks good I think you just gave me a wheel idea for my GT500 Did the wheels and brakes go on pretty easily? The wheels were a very easy swap. For the rears, I cut an aluminum sleave to fit inside the wheel, which allowed them to slide right onto the mustangs axle. The front ones were a little more involved. First I cut the nubs off of the brakes. I then slid the brakes onto the wheels then ground down the wheels mounting nubs flush with the brakes. After cutting off the mounting pins from the spindels, I glued the wheels to the spindels.
JamesW Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 (edited) very nice, there's a resin mustang convertible body on ebay right now, i THINK it was the gt500, not sure though, ok here's the link http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-2007-MUSTANG-CONVE...1QQcmdZViewItem Edited November 17, 2008 by grimreaper

Zoom Zoom Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 very nice, there's a resin mustang convertible body on ebay right now, i THINK it was the gt500, not sure though, ok here's the link http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-2007-MUSTANG-CONVE...1QQcmdZViewItem I've seen it in person (they had a table and were selling them at our NNL on the 8th), it's a great conversion. The uptop is a very nice feature, and fits perfectly. If you dig through Gregg's photos from the Atlanta NNL he has several pics of this convertible as well. It is a standard Mustang, based on the '05/'06 body, not the newer GT-H or GT-500 body (which is all-new, Revell tooled a completely new body for them). Hopefully someone responds to Kevin and does a similar conversion for the Shelby cars. The 2010 Mustang is being revealed this week, so it's doubtful we'll ever see a convertible from Revell based on the '06-'09 Mustangs at this point.
kelson Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 What a great looking conversion!,would be nice if revell offered one.Really like the t-top version you did .
white00gt Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 That car is from Time Machine Resin http://www.timemachineresin.bravehost.com/fordkits.html#2007 Mustang Convertible GRRR , of course since my Shelby GT-H Conv. is taking me forever because of my hand injury(now fixed after surgery) all this nice stuff is coming out! Might buy the car and just use some of the parts since the body is pretty much done just need to primer it again and check for minor imperfections
