DoctorLarry Posted March 2, 2021 Author Posted March 2, 2021 The proverbial chop saw came out on this one...
DoctorLarry Posted March 8, 2021 Author Posted March 8, 2021 Got some more work done on the chassis. Got a cage fitted and finished the dash/firewall. Did some painting on various parts. From the limited pictures of the car, the interior was a light color. I used Tamiya Insignia White, which was a light gray matte color virtually identical to the color of the molded plastic on the TBird kits. I am detailing out the chassis parts and getting ready to plumb and wire everything. A few more cage pieces to fit as well as the trunk and package tray fillers.
DoctorLarry Posted March 10, 2021 Author Posted March 10, 2021 Preliminary wiring/plumbing check list: plug wires, fuel line pump to carb, fuel line tank to pump, all brake lines, battery cables, 2 scavenge lines oil pan to dry sump pump, two lines dry sump pump to oil tank, feed line oil tank to cooler, cooler line to remote oil filter, remote oil filter to dry sump pump, dry sump pump to oil filter plate inlet. Whew! Did I miss anything?
Radar43 Posted March 12, 2021 Posted March 12, 2021 Larry, I would like to purchase two of those bodies if you are willing to sell them. Thanks
DoctorLarry Posted March 15, 2021 Author Posted March 15, 2021 More work done. Mounted the radiator, finished the front shocks and framing for them, plumbed the rear end and oil cooler and plumbed the puke tank. Put some roll bar padding on and mounted the shifter. Mocked the seat up and mounted the headrest, which came from a later NASCAR kit. Put the valve stems in the wheels and painted them the correct color.
DoctorLarry Posted March 20, 2021 Author Posted March 20, 2021 Almost done. Engine wired/plumbed. I need to do exhaust, fuel line to the tank, install the seat and make the harness and window net.
Ben269 Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 This car is looking great so far. What did you use for roll bar padding?
DoctorLarry Posted March 20, 2021 Author Posted March 20, 2021 Heat shrink tubing split with scissors. I have also taken an old computer power cord and stripped off the insulation. Either looks good.
DoctorLarry Posted March 22, 2021 Author Posted March 22, 2021 Top side is almost done. Got the harness done (real pain in the neck). seat mounted, engine detailing done. Got a driveshaft made and installed. Final details are shroud, air cleaner, headers and exhaust then ready for body fitting.
DoctorLarry Posted March 22, 2021 Author Posted March 22, 2021 Forgot the steering wheel and window net!
TransAmMike Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 Thats looking great Larry. I'm not into NASCAR models (anymore at least), but your rendition of that car is right on!!!?
DoctorLarry Posted March 22, 2021 Author Posted March 22, 2021 (edited) Thanks, Mike. I'm not really a big NASCAR guy either but I love building the vintage cars. Much more interesting than today. I love researching the builds as much as the builds themselves, particularly interesting unheard of guys. Edited March 22, 2021 by DoctorLarry

To me whats particularly interesting to me on that car, is the picture of it rusting away in a junkyard.
