Is there a specific truck you’re looking to upgrade? Or do you have one that has missing parts? There’s a good amount of aftermarket details out there, but no single source that has everything. My general go-to suppliers are moluminum.com, stsupply.com, auslowe.com.au, aitruckmodels.com, and kitformservices.com, along with random parts on eBay. If you are looking for something specific, we could probably point you in the right direction.

Mostly the chrome for this International right now. I need the correct mirrors, grab handles, door handles, lights on top of the cab, one air horn, and one rear wheel.

That’s a worthwhile project. Depending on how exact you’d like to be, I’d go a number of different ways.

For the most accurate replacements, you could get genuine “oem” parts from the upcoming release of the 4070a Transtar that has been re-tooled and upgraded. Hopefully it’s released sometime this year.

Rather than buy a whole kit, there will inevitably be people “parting out” the new kits. You also may be able to get the parts directly from Round 2. However, with needing several parts, and people pricing things the way they do, it might be cheaper to buy the whole kit. But, then you have parts left over, (you could sell them) and the same problem now with yet another kit. Of course, you could have just built the whole new kit in the first place.

The simpler and more economical option would be to get another junk kit like an ertl transtar 4300 conventional that’s easy to come by, and use that for fairly close replacements. Of course you’d still be out of luck on the bottom grille portion.

The only place I know you can get an assortment of individual parts straight from the box, is eBay. Prices vary. Otherwise, aftermarket replacements are the option.

Check out Auslowe, AITM, and KFS, you should be able to find suitable parts like the wheels, marker lights, and horns. But again, in the end, it will probably be cheaper to get the new release.

It may be easier to build it as a resto-mod and replace all of those parts with stuff from another kit, regardless of make or model.

You are doing the truck kit wich is the hardest to find parts for, or even to find one, until the new tool reverse engineered kit comes later this year, the CO 4070A Transtar came 1974 and was only out for a couple of years before it was converted to the CO 4070B Transtar II Eagle 1976.

Thanks for the info. I probably will just get a brand new kit like you suggested when they finally do get reissued. I have the missing grill piece it just came off when I tilted the cab. It's the only piece that did come off. I can't get anything else apart to be able to repaint the cab. So I'm probably scrapping this rebuild and just going to leave it as is.

I've heard these things are sorta like a holy grail of semi model kits. I have the 1976 model too but it is missing most of the same pieces.

If you know someone who can do the small parts in resin, you could just pull the other horn off, and one of the cab light's. Models by Dave makes a few small parts for the 4070 A ( front bumper, and the Transtar trim  with the step rungs under the door if your missing the Trim under the doors.

Force: the Transtar 4070 a actually was released in 1973. One of the two kit boxes I have is stamped inside Oct 1973. I also know that this date is correct as My Brother and I got a built copy for Christmas in 1973. My dad (Harvester employee) painted them, and Mom built both of them.

I plan on getting one when they are reissued on the market, and eventhough I have three Original copies built I want to build one as the rig my brother got. That will bookend the one I built to look like the one I got for Christmas '73.. The red and white is identical to the one I got way back then, But was foolish and tried to play with it  back then.

I found an add from 1972 in my files when I was looking just now mentioning the CO 4070A was coming so 1973 is probably right, I just took the year for the initial issue from the top of my head and only missed it with a couple of months, from October 1973 wich is the copyright date you have  to January 1974 is 3 months, maybe 2-2½ if it took some time for the distribution.
Anyway, it's one of the rarest truck kits out there as it was only out between October 1973 and sometime in 1975 before the tool was converted to the CO 4070B Transtar II Eagle for 1976.

Here are both of mine. I robbed some parts from an old Freightliner and put them on the black 1973.
