Captain Obvious Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Geez, I wish I had just a small percentage of your talent! I'm speechless as to how awesome that is!
David Thibodeau Posted January 14, 2009 Author Posted January 14, 2009 Thanks guys.... in the midst of the 312PB build I did make some progress on the FXX... The engine is in place in the monocoque. The intake is sitting there for a test fit. Still have lots to do to tidy this area up I dropped the interior in place for another test fit..... Front area is complete. I did not go crazy, basically a little CF, Kit instruction painting is all that is needed. The bonnett will not be shown once the car is complete but I still wanted it to be clean. Its coming along!! Stay tuned for more updates..... DaveT
Mike Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Breathtaking. Can't wait to see the completed ride.
chevyguy Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Looking good, looking good, lay the stripe on and see what it looks like before you set it.
Raul_Perez Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 WOW!!! That detail kit and your building skills are really making this one EXCELLENT build!! Thanks for sharing,
rollinoldskoo Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 i got a Tamiya Enzo kit in a gift exchange last month.... i was afraid to touch it after lookin thru the parts.... now after seeing this build...... i think i need another 20 years experience before i build it....
David Thibodeau Posted January 18, 2009 Author Posted January 18, 2009 Thanks guys.... Well I buttoned up the Interior and even installed it today.... I also scratch built out of solid aluminum rod the lap counter on the dash and wired it after painting it clear blue. The front end is all complete as well. Basically from the box cleanly done. It will all be covered anyways..... Here is a few pics of the chassis about 90% done..... more soon........ DaveT
58 Impala Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Fantastic build. Again I ask "Dave, with all the outrageous builds you do,do you ever eat or sleep?"
David Thibodeau Posted January 23, 2009 Author Posted January 23, 2009 Thanks guys...... One really cool part of the SMS kit is the turned aluminum shocks... A big improvement over the kit parts.... Here they are installed....
juergen Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 hi ! sorry but my english words are too wrong to post my meaning of this built !!! absolutly great this is all i can say !!!! greets jürgen
BKIN10SECS Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Mr. Thibodeau, there is nothing that I can say that hasn't been said before. Well maybe one thing, many a person can build a clean looking model but one of the many things that seperate you from so many of us is.....you got the eye. Many of us would be satisfied with a certian finished product but you always seem to add that something, that technique that only your eyes can see and invision!!! And that vision that skill that level of commitment is what seperates your builds from the rest of us. If I may, I would like to ask you one question. When you applied you CF decals (like the door panels) certian areas you would use 2 part clear and others you would use Future....why. Your builds teach us so so much...I just wanted to to says Thanks! And lets not forget SMS....awsum awsum kit....Thanks Matt
David Thibodeau Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 Mr. Your builds teach us so so much...I just wanted to to says Thanks! And lets not forget SMS....awsum awsum kit....Thanks Matt Thanks Matt.. I appreciate your comments very much. To answer your question.... I applied Future to the interior by airbrush and by paintbrush on the dash because I can control where the future goes much better that way... I applied 2 part to the exterior and undercarriage for depth, and durability I would not get with future! I made loads of progress this weekend all documented too! Instead of painting the SMS mesh I blackened it. I always wanted to try the stuff and when I saw it in Atlanta at the Mega Hobbytown I snatched it up. It didnt dissapoint.... neat to watch it change when you dunk it.... I even did the PE radiator plates from the SMS superset with the blacken it ... a shame they will be covered by the air ducts.... Here are the side pods all installed in the engine bay. Pods are installed and all plumbing is complete. I used Pro tech .045 line and fittings along with Detailmaster #4 Hardline to make up the oil cooling system like the 1:1 car has. I even added fuel plumbing by the fuel receptacle similar to the 1:1 car. At this point the engine bay is complete. The strut bracing is a combination of aluminum tubing and PE hardware from the superkit.
David Thibodeau Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 Front glass and detailing was also done at this time. Instead of the kit decal I decided to paint the flat black sunscreen and add SMS PE hold down plates. A few naked shots before doors and front clip are installed... Door Detailing is complete! Doors are now in place along with the front clip. It is at this point that I decided that I am going to make this car a wheels off displayed car. The brake detail is so beautiful and the car will look very cool all opened up with the wheels off. I will fix solid #5 DM line cut to perfect equal length and epoxy them in the positions where the 1:1 car has the jackposts that pop out the bottom when pitting for tires... my first extreme FXX if you will.... Pity I did not open the hood... I already have a red one wheels on that will look great next to this one.... Here are some mock ups..... DaveT
BKIN10SECS Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 LOL...sorry for the confusion Dave, my name is Jay I was paying props to Matt at SMS for the superb kit And Thanks for the info on the clear.

Raul_Perez Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 That is simply a work of art!! In the end, how much did it cost for all of the detailing parts for this build? Thanks,
Merkur XR4Ti Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Absolutely jaw dropping work as usual, Dave. Where can one get the Krylon Suede texture paint you've used? Is that available at Wally World or the like?
Nick F40 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 It looks freakin real, you are truly insane, incredible work
Bryce Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Awesome work so far on what appears to be an incredible model kit. Absolutely breathtaking...can’t wait to see the finished job!

bryan_m Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 wow! outstanding build.......the carbon fiber look great, and so do the seat belts cheers bryan
eizzle Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 That's a beautiful car, I wish SMS would do the detail set seperate from the carbon set, or do the detail set and the carbon templates for the interior parts instead of the whole car...
Ira Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 I thought the same thing...BEAUTIFUL WORK DAVID!!! I just spent a quite while looking at all the progress shots and reading the details... AMAZING! I learned a few new things. Love the Decal Work too... Thanks for sharing this Wonderful Build David!
