Mirror Engraving Tool

I saw this on a Facebook ad. One of the commentators suggested looking for a Alexen AJ0030 Scriber. I found several on an auction site. It's an interesting design. Anyone have any experience with one?

Mirror engraving?  Can you explain?

This is designed to scribe a line a set distance from an outside edge. This should allow a uniform edge from something like a window trim.

I just use my calipers for that task.  I dial the offset, then hand one jaw on the edge of the part, and scribe the line using the other jaw.
