VictorSmalls Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 I am currently working on a 427 block with twin carbs and want to add on the detail master carb linkage setup I have laying around. Anyone have any good pics and information as to how this goes together? The kit has instructions but they are pretty tough to follow. Any help is appreciated.
VictorSmalls Posted December 11, 2008 Author Posted December 11, 2008 Anyone have any thoughts? At this point I an just "winging it" and it is going pretty well. I just want it to look realistic and correct.
randx0 Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 I am not a super detailer by any means but try looking for some rebuild schematics they should give you a good idea so you can wing it a little better.
bigphoto Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 How much detail do you want to do? I guess would be the question. Do you want it prototyically accurate or would you be happy with just having linkage? Also what is the engine going into?
VictorSmalls Posted December 11, 2008 Author Posted December 11, 2008 How much detail do you want to do? I guess would be the question. Do you want it prototyically accurate or would you be happy with just having linkage? Also what is the engine going into? The engine is going into a 66 Fairlane. I am not looking for a masterful copy of the linkage, but would like something more than just adding in the fuel lines like I always do. I took a look at a great fotki page with all sorts of engine bay photos, so that gave me some idea of where to start. Thanks for the input guys.
Andy Wyatt Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 By no means an experst, what I usually do is find some good photo reference and then instaed of trying to get it absolutely dead on correct (because in my case that will never happen)...I just get the general look of the linkage and cable and return spring. I drill a small hole in the side of the carb and use a small piece of wire and a plastic spacer between the carb and linkage and pin it all together with a tiny drop of superglue. I then strip the insulation off 30awg wrapping wire and use that wire for the linkage cable hooking one end into the linkage and running it back to the firewall. I use stranded 26awg communications wire, pulling a single strand (about two times as thick as hair), wrap it about a dozen times around a small drill bit shank and use that as a return spring. Looks o.k. from about 4 ft....
my80malibu Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 You could look at some websites like Summit or Holley Carburetor to view available carbs and get some Ideas and just copy what they look like Gabriel
cruz Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 When I did my Model Car Garage Stromberg Carburetor set I remember doing a lot of very small and precise holes to connect the small rods and ultimately place my photo-etch parts onto them. It is a tedious process and one you will have to be careful with. These are some photos of the WIP when I did mine!!! Hope this helps!!!
