diymirage Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 allright guys, i bought a wired distributor for the chalenger but i cant figure out for the life of me how ti attach the wires to either the alluminum dizzy nor the valve covers i drilled small holes in the covers that the wires fit in but not the boots but the wires still keep popping out i tried glueing them in but no luck how do i do this ? (i also need to know how to attach them to the dizzy)
george 53 Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Eelco, I was gonna be a smart butt, but I figgered your gonna end up messin it up if I was, So..... 1st, is your dizzy pre-drilled? If not, take a pin and try to make a pilot mark for a .035 size drill. Then drill into the terminals on the Dist. Drill matching holes in the heads where the plugs are located. If you wanna get nuts, just get a Chiltons /Motor Manual, and find the firing order for your particular engine. Then just run the wires acording to the manual. As far as plug boots just cut them to size, and push the wires into them.I use super glue for that, applied with a needle, or pin.It might be better if you tried it on a junk engine first, just to get the hang of it.Thats really about the jist of it. I sure hope this helps, and you can make sense of it!
outlaw035 Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 just wondering did u drill the hole all the way into the block...if not try that then u can push alot of escess wire into it will help them stay after u glue them...just athought...N
diymirage Posted December 9, 2008 Author Posted December 9, 2008 thanks guys the dizzy i have is predrilled and i did not manage to drill all the way down into the block, my main problem was that my model glue just wouldnt hold my wires in place i guess ill give sure gleu i try. i did find the firing order online and was trying to go by that now, does it make a difference where i start, engine or dizzy ?
MrObsessive Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 I echo what George said. What I like to do is make the hole just big enough for the wire to slip through.........not sloppy big as it will have a tendency to slip out as you've described. I also like to put the super glue on the very end of the wire, and not the hole. I've found the hole gets too plugged up quickly if you delay in getting the wire through fast enough. Bead wire (found at craft stores) works great for me when applying super glue............I'll then follow this up with a skiff of Zap-A-Gap to speed the hardening up. I too use prewired distibutors..........they're much less crazy making than trying to drill the distibutors. For plug boots, (and dist. boots) you can use the insulation off your battery cable wires for that. Here's pic of an old Ferrari I built years ago................this was a case of having to drill the holes in the distributors on my own, and a number of drill pricks was well felt! As you get practiced in doing this...........wiring engines will be a piece of cake!
Pete J. Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Two last tips. First make sure your wires are straight to start with. No strange lumps or bends. Ignition wires in cars are very smooth. To do this grab both ends of the wire with two pair of pliers and stretch them just a bit. By pulling on each end the wire will straighten. Second tip. If you can't find the firing order, just mix them up. Alternate which side they go to and don't do straight front to back. Incidental, no one will really know. Keep the bends in the wires as smooth as possible.

Kris Morgan makes an awsome pre wired distributer. Many color combinations. No, I don't work for Kris either, but I have done some master work for him in my Machine Shop. You can also order directly from Kris by using this link...............tell him Sully sent ya....... http://www.freewebs.com/morganautomotivedetail/index.htm Sully
diymirage Posted December 10, 2008 Author Posted December 10, 2008 cris' parts have made the favorites lists how much does he charge for shippings ? anyways, i thought i would post some progress as you can tell i was to eager to get started to head to every good word spoken, it will NOT happen again. but i managed to get the wires in (except for the dizzy feed) im now waiting for the gleu to dry, then ill route them to the valve covers and trim them (sorry for the louzy pic)
RodneyBad Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Diffidently some of the best looking pre wired distributors I've seen. and soo many dif color options. I'd order a dozen and then some.
Towmaster Dave Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 this should help for putting the wires in the correct locations.
MikeMc Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 this should help for putting the wires in the correct locations. SWEET!!!!!
evilone Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Ok get yourself some crazy glue and kicker. The plug wires will glue in but not with any cheap testors glue(trust me). After you attach the wires to the dizzy then slide the plug boots on the wire. When it comes to putting them on the engine well that takes a little feness.Slide the boots on to the wire,Then put the crazy glue on the wire,Insert wire into the hole,Then slide the boot to touch the engine,Then spray the kicker and bingo you wired the engine.Hope this helps bro
