Guys, I don't deal alot with the Bay, but recently I did buy somethin, and when I went to pay for it, It wouldn't let me access the sellers name OR address. He stated that he'd accept the Bay, M.O. or USPO.(postal M.O.) So I wanted to pay by M.O. and Evil Bay, WOULDN'T let me Access his address or Name, to send him one. I just think it's unfair that the bastiges take a cut from your sales, THEN charge you for using them!I have an E-Bay account, so it wasn't a big deal, but since WHEN have they been FORCING you to have to use paypal? It's getting to the point where even if you WANT to accept a M.O. THEY WON'T LET YOU!!!! Man, that sure sucks!

This has been the policy for a couple months now and if the seller gets caught accepting money orders he can actually get suspended, but still you can try contacting the seller and see if he'll work something out. It may not be right, but it's the way it is.

Hey George 'ol buddy :D

Bought a lot of stuff on eBay - Mostly kits :P

Glad myself they went this way, as there were enough dishonest buyers and sellers out there, that it became necessary.

We'll probably hear a lot about PayPal and putting them down, but personally, I like the change and the security that the changes bring.

I got burned a coupla times, and almost quit. I still got 100% feedback still after nearly 200 transactions, but a few of those were tough.

Had to eat the loss a few times to keep my ratings, so for me glad they changed it.

I don't personally think it's about the money, like I hear so many whinning about( Lota whinners out there - they need a life  ). I think they wanted to keep their customers happy.

Anyway, it is what it is :P

"That's my story and I'm stickin to it ;) "

See ya - dave

Well, it's good for the protection of the buyers, but it's at at all for the sellers. They claim that if you ship to the confirmed address that you're protected, unfortunately in mine and a friend's experience that simply isn't true. He's had a chargeback on him supposedly put on him by the buyer's credit card company for over two months, I have one going on 1 1/2 months, luckily mine is only 10 bucks but it sure makes me unwilling to take large payments via PayPal. My ebay selling days are all but over for several reasons, (above and beyond the PayPal issue). I only sell on occasions when I have junk I just want to get rid of that someone might be willing to pay for and even then I think twice about it!

I love it, I always love paypal espically when selling. Its nice not having to wait a week or more for a MO. And I have the PayPal Debit card, so as soon as I'm paid I have money to use, and when I get to the post office to ship I use the card for that to. And for buying it saves a trip to a store or post office for a MO. I know paypal charges a fee, but considering You get paid faster, and when You buy the seller gets paid faster, which usually means You get what You bought faster. And I sometimes keep money form sales in there, its like a online bank account for those online purchases.

Yup, can't do that anymore, since Oct 8th IIRC.

I am sure glad some of you folks think Pay Pal is so great! Why should you care if a seller will take any form of payment. That should be his or her right. Their was always a choice before, now there is none. That too me is not good. E-BAY still got their money did they not? I think they have lost buyers and sellers because of it. I have heard just as many bad things about Pay Pal as good. I bought a lot of models on E-BAY but will not buy anymore from it.

I feel it is a good choice for them to go to PayPal only. I have had so many nonpayers that would "claim" to tell me that the money order was in the mail and it never showed, it was ridiculous. Never had a problem with buyers that used paypal. Its weeded out the DEADBEATS for me...

I agree, I think it was only a small fraction of people who complained. The ONLY significant problem on EBAY was resolved by PayPal. Had it been a MO I'd been out, and doing a MO was PIA, IMHO.

I did get some cheap stuff off sellers who only took MO's becuase nobody else wanted to bid on their stuff probably for the same reason I didn't like to: it's a PIA.

Well most of the bad things were simply political arguments about fees. I don't think the services were ever put into question.

You can do what you want to do, but in the grander scheme of things it's just not going to make a whole lot of difference if you buy off EBAY or not, other that you just cut you yourself off from a viable resource morelikely to make a political statement than anything else.

While I agree some changes were needed I will disagree with a few of them. Just like anyone else.

I don't have a problem with the fees either, but rather on the fees incurred on specific payments.

I'd certainly love to hear what you guys have to say when pay-pal holds your money for 21 days and YOU have to ship the item and make sure the buyer is happy before your funds are released to you. That means money out of your own pocket. Shipping an item without having money in hand? When was this ok to do?

By now you're probably thinking this happened to me. It hasn't, but it is something that could happen to any one of us. At first it was just holds on questionable electronics then all of a sudden pay-pal got the power and decided to randomly hold money on ALL items they felt were questionable.

Sure it's all fine and dandy when as a seller things go your way, but just wait until they don't. Has it helped weed out buyers and sellers? Yes I do think it has, but in the same regard its made it harder for others to sell and or buy as well.

It truly has turned into a buyers market on ebay because of this. Yet, the ebay seller is ebay's customer. Backwards? IMO, yes.

I do like having pay-pal as an option to pay, but I also like to be able to offer my buyers other options as well. I've never had a problem with money orders in over 10 years. One problem with a personal check in that same time frame.

I think some more changes are needed, but I'm still able to work with these and until change happens I'll keep going business as usual.

as a buyer and occasional seller on Ebay, i prefer to use Paypal over anything else. i agree that it has "weeded" out alot of sellers and bidders/buyers that shouldn't have been there. the new problem is bidding against stronger bidders now B)

Dave

So you say that anyone but your type of seller and buyer should not be on E-BAY? I think that is a self serving and biased statement on your part. Don't do it your way or just get lost is that it ?

Since when did this take place?

I sell on Ebay, (mind you Ebay.ca so maybe those rules haven't taken effect here yet), and take MOs from Canadian and US customers. I will tell you that I prefer Paypal, but will and can still take MOs.....first I have heard of it honestly!

It's been policy for a while now.

Seems like a good idea to me. A secure, guaranteed method of payment protects both buyer and seller. It just makes good sense.

I just went into my account.....and if I try to post a new auction or Ebay Store item, under "How would you like to be paid" it has 3 boxes....Paypal, MO, and Personal Cheque. So like I said....not sure where this policy came from, but sellers are able to still take money orders!

I am actually looking at it right now, and there is nothing that says we can't accept Money Orders. That is unless it is a US Ebay thing....I am in Canada, so maybe the rules for Ebay.ca are different.

I think PayPal works great. For me, living in Sweden, it's the easiest and only way to do my transactions. I'm both a buyer and seller, but haven't sold very much lately. It was fun selling stuff on ebay. I had a few checks arrive as payment, but it doesn't even work with US checks in Sweden. So they were returned, and some time later I got paid via PayPal. Like Treehugger Dave, I've also got 100% positive feedback, and close to 200 feedback replies.

I still see auctions that say they don't accept PayPal and say MO only..I guess they didn't get the message.

I've only bid on PayPal auctions for years...I don't have to time to deal w/ Money Orders..they seem like a quaint concept from long ago.

Personally I like the idea of them only taking Pay Pal, as I have had a few guys try to tell me that they never recieved my M.O. Payment, even though I had checked with the M.O. Company, and they said that the Payment was cashed by the sellers.... B)

Some of the Sellers are Now saying that they Prefer Pay Pal, but then they go on to say that they won't accept your Pay Pal payment, and will report you for non-payment, if your account is not Verified... Yet they say they will accept a Personal Check, Postal or Bank M. O. as well :D

I read on EBAY site that if a customer request too pay for an item by money order the sellers are allowed to do so. The requirement is that a seller can not advertise any form of payment but Pay Pal or Pro Pay. Just read the rules on EBAY site. By the way that is for U.S. folks only for now. I and a lot of other folks should have read the rules before we voiced our opinion.
