I am in the process of building the 1/25 AMT/ERTL '66 Ford Mustang Hardtop, kit number 31542, with plans to modify it to represent a Trans-Am car.  Making changes to the body and interior doesn't present any real problems.  My concern is with the kit chassis, which resembles a promo style screw on chassis.  All of the molded in detail makes modifying the chassis a task I do not want to attempt.  What I would like to know is if there is another kit chassis that I could use as a substitute.  Something that is more realistic and can be modified very easily.   Any help is appreciated.

'67 Shelby GT-350 has the exact same parts, so whichever you find first or cheaper.  The '68 GT-500 does NOT have the same parts, it is not as good a choice.

I'd use one from a Monogram '66 fastback. I'm pretty sure you would have to make the AMT '67 chassis wider to fit the '66 as there's a big difference in the shape at the bottom of the bodies between the two.
