Dennis Lacy Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Having fun with the new camera again, I thought you might enjoy seeing some old builds from the good old days. The following models were built by my Father in the early-mid 1960's when he was a teenager. They are all first-issue kits, several of which are from the AMT Trophy series. He has these on display in his office. They're a bit dusty and I decided not to try and clean them as it gives them a certain character - like dragging an old hotrod out of a barn after 40 years. These are true time capsules, capturing perfectly the trends of the time period in which they were built. Enjoy!
Dennis Lacy Posted December 26, 2008 Author Posted December 26, 2008 When's the last time you saw a '64 Corvette with an injected Dodge Red Ram Hemi?!
Peter Lombardo Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Boy, that sure brought back some memories! That was the kind of Hot Rods I was building back in the 60's...all of which my mother trashed when I was away in the Navy. Your dad had it "going" there, as they are nicely done for that period. Thanks for the post, I love looking back to the way it was..."back in the day".....the real Golden Era of model car building.
Randy Kern Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 The fact that they survived for 40+ years is amazing enough, as most things this fragile don't, but they are a piece of history that surely needs to be preserved. It's great to see these old collections, no matter how they have been built or customized. I should see if my older brother still has his old late 50's build-ups, as I remember starting to build in the mid sixies thinking they were ancient!
Modelmartin Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 (edited) Very cool models! Your dad certainly achieved the "look" of the time. My dad built out of the box starting in 58 with AMT annuals. Unfortunately a garage fire melted his whole collection down in '76! Edited December 27, 2008 by Modelmartin
Clay Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Whew! For a second there I was thinking that how I built models in the 60's, then I remembered, I wasnt born yet!!! Just kidding you old farts. I like how all these models survived. Tell your dad he did a good job.
RodneyBad Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 You just gotta love the classics. Your dad did a great job and for them to last 40yrs is a true testament to his skills. Great jobs.
locoengr Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Has he thought about building again? Nice work and thanx for sharing!! Bruce in Fargo
