Turbo590 Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 (edited) 12/27/08 Guy's....Happy Holidays Since I haven't posted pictures in a while...I thought I would bring everyone up to date. The truck is about 80% completed..the frame will go to the paint booth (basement) within the next week or so to get primer, and then chassis black. The hood is finished and in primer...the cab...WELL, that is the last piece that will be a "PITA". I ordered scale brass rivets for the added detail, I am going to try another set of hinges for the doors...and then hopefully primer and then paint. I am shooting to have this piece to unveil at the 2009 Old Dominion Open (February..in Virginia) that I will be attending with another fellow modeler. Scratch built hydraulic/PTO tower, added extras..clipboard, and laptop computer obtained from Don Loomis (Yahoo) http://www.flickr.com/photos/escort500xl/sets/ . He has some neat items casted in resin. Enjoy.....Kurt Edited February 15, 2009 by Turbo590
Jim B Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Amazing details, Kurt. I like all of the little touches like the pine tree air freshener. Great work.
Aaronw Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Wow, great job it looks like the real thing but a little cleaner. It almost seems a shame to close that up in a cab and would be a great excuse to make a clear roof like the old Monogram visible B-17 did with the clear side.
Old Albion Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Kurt, This looks great. I like the little interior details. How did you make the Lap Top Computer? Best Wishes Dave Bates
Turbo590 Posted January 1, 2009 Author Posted January 1, 2009 (edited) 1/1/09 Happy New Year to all...... Progress is still slow..BUT going... Finished the hood assembly up earlier this AM..with the Freightliner Viper Blue..(2 coats of paint, 2 coats of Tamiya clear coat)..the cab is being worked on at this time. Thank you to Jameston at (Scalefinishes) http://scalefinishes.com for supplying the paint..please check out his website..he offers automotive paint in complete kit(s)..at awesome prices..wide variety....highly recommended... Thanks, Kurt Edited January 1, 2009 by Turbo590
mackinac359 Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Nice color choice. How are you fabricating the fender mirrors? Tim
kwtrucker Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 (edited) Kurt, Your Freightliner is coming along nicely. Like Tim said, nice color choice. Keep up the great work. Edited January 1, 2009 by kwtrucker
Turbo590 Posted January 6, 2009 Author Posted January 6, 2009 1-5-09 Just finished detailing out the hood...tonight... :P :P I should sleep like a baby tonight...Too stressing!! Kurt If the parts look custom fabricated..They are..... And a picture of the painted frame..done this past weekend..in Mack Black.
fordh8r Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I used to work for Freightliner and to see your interior is quite impressive. I especially like the detail of the PTO controls and the range controls on the shifter. We had a "Toughbook" lap top computer like that as well, only our was black. Outstanding detail and I'm liking the color choice for the body. Can't wait to see how this one turns out.
Alfnut Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Kurt, love the color, love the truck. Impressed as usual. cant wait to see the final pictures
Simon Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 The interior detail is unbelievably crisp and well finished. I think I'm going to revisit the interior of my current project - if I can get it a tenth as nice, I'll be pleased! Looking forward to seeing more of this Freightliner.
Turbo590 Posted January 12, 2009 Author Posted January 12, 2009 1-11-09 Guys... Here is what the weekend produced..... Engine and drive shaft(s) with carrier installed. Plumbing to the airbrakes/airtanks completed..and some other odds and ends... Just a mock up..with many more to come as pieces are attached....Kurt

fordh8r Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Definitely one of the best truck builds I've ever seen. I like the look of the drive tires on this. Did those come in the kit?
Old Albion Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Kurt, This is coming along very well. Looks very realistic with all the little details. At this stage in the build it reminds me of a truck on a production line like the part built truck Tim built in the Peterbilt factory in St Ignace Michigan. Just one question how did you make the little mirrors on the hood fenders? They are a great little touch of detail. Good Luck with the rest of the build. Best Wishes Dave Bates
Turbo590 Posted January 17, 2009 Author Posted January 17, 2009 (edited) 1-17-09 Getting there...UH Dave....Good to hear from you. The fenders mirrors were scratch built from Evergreen plastic round stock. There are about 15 pieces that make each assembly..about 2 hours apiece in them...Thanks, Kurt Kurt Edited January 17, 2009 by Turbo590
Old Albion Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Kurt, Very impressive. The whole truck looks right, the fit between the hood and the cab is perfect. Frame not too long or too short. Yes very impressed!! Thanks for the information on the mirrors. I might have a go at making some in the near future. Thanks for posting and good luck with the rest of the build. Best Wishes Dave
