Cool Hand Posted February 9 Author Posted February 9 So im still in a good frame of mind to do body prep and paint work, so got this Holden LX A9X Torana back on the bench. 2
Zippi Posted February 9 Posted February 9 That LX A9X Torana is going to be a looker Luke. You know I'll be watching. 1
Cool Hand Posted February 9 Author Posted February 9 Thanks Bob appreciate it. The colour ive picked for the A9X will hopefully make it a looker for sure.
Cool Hand Posted February 9 Author Posted February 9 Got the 64 Malibu of the paint stand and like always have to do a mock up. 4
Cool Hand Posted February 10 Author Posted February 10 WhiIe I wait for the surfacer to dry on the A9X, I dug out another kit to start preparing 😆 I have nothing better to do. This build is going to be inspired by a local car that started my liking for the HQ Holden sedan 30 years ago. 1
Cool Hand Posted February 10 Author Posted February 10 (edited) I have been a long time user of Alclad for all my chrome painting. But I had seen some excellent results with SMS paints HyperChrome, so decided to experiment and learn how to use it on the HQ wheels. Very happy with the results. Also set the stance. Cool Hand Posted February 10 Author Posted February 10 Second and final coat of surfacer applied to A9X. Used 1500 pink for a lighter foundation for the colour coat. 3
Cool Hand Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 (edited) Well why not prepare another body, cant do much else when the temperature is 45'c / 113'f 🫠 So dug out a Holden LJ Torana kit from the stash and will be built Burnout car style. Edited February 12 by Cool Hand 3
Cool Hand Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 (edited) I do have a bit of a.d.d, but Im actually trying to get all these bodies painted and any others I feel like doing before the end of the aussie summer. I Edited February 12 by Cool Hand 1

Should start looking the part with side window frames blacked out and some BMF. Old mate SlowysModels ITB's on a custom one of manifold that was designed to suit the DDA 308 engine block. 18 hours ago, Zippi said: Hot diggity dog Luke. That came out so nice. Admittedly I was having some issues with my photo taking recently, but tried a different setting on the phone camera and big improvement. And I always try to take photo's of my model cars at angles like you would see the 1:1's in magazines. 18 hours ago, Zippi said: Wowser man...that's a looker already dude. Cool Hand Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 (edited) 3D printed some burnout rims to suit the DDA kit tyres for the LJ Torana. Wheel file is from SlowysModels Edited February 15 by Cool Hand 2
Cool Hand Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 (edited) Like always idea's get the better of me so.... Dug this kit out of the stash. And ive had the plan of building a 210 like this inspiration picture I found. After a couple hours of work, this is where im at. Have the body worked roughed in and need to finishing shaping, then il do the shark nose like the inspiration. I wont be using the wheels in the mock up, I 3D printed some other wheels that are similar to the ones on the inspiration pic. Edited February 15 by Cool Hand 3
Cool Hand Posted February 16 Author Posted February 16 Shark nose roughed in and wheels painted. The joys of being able to 3D print. 2
Cool Hand Posted February 16 Author Posted February 16 And next on the bench for body prep. I did have one these Camaro's already painted black back in 2023. But I gave it away to help out a guy who messed up the black paint on his, havent seen him build it yet either. Kinda wish I kept it now 🤣 1

I’m hoping to get a start on my DDA HQ Kingswood before summer ends, doing a replica of one l owned back in the 80’s, it was lowered, ( a little too much! ) and had centreline style wheels. These pictures of yours gives me a bit of an idea how mine would look. 👍🏻 Cheers, Stuart. 1
Zippi Posted February 17 Posted February 17 That pure red looks sweet and the Camaro is looking good Luke. 1

We are so lucky to be able build kits of Aussie car's. Hope to see your HQ build soon. 17 hours ago, Zippi said: That pure red looks sweet and the Camaro is looking good Luke. Thanks Bob. The pure red kinda reminded me of old Ruby and the bright red paint.
