With this being my first full year to the MCM forum, I don't recall if everyone posted their year's worth of builds at the beginning of '08 or not, so I don't know if this is an MCM tradition or just something that got started this year.

After seeing a few others post their collection of builds for the year, I was initially a bit reluctant to do the same. Then after another day went by and more of you were posting your builds for the year I thought "why not?", and did the same. Over the past few days, many more of you have posted your builds for the year. Some of you also appeared to do so with initial reluctance, (based on the title of your post).

After seeing so many of you following along with this theme I've got to say that I think it's a GREAT idea. To me it's been like looking through the yearend Model Contest issue of MCM where all of the builds for the year are highlighted!!

So, if this is an MCM tradition then GREAT, I'll support it again next year. If it's not then I think that we should make it a tradition starting with this year.

Many of us USED to frequent another board. The "post your builds from this year" began there several years ago. I think it's neat to look back at everyone's modelling accomplishments over the past 12 months. As long as people are posting ONE picture of each model built in the past year, I don't consider it "clutter". This IS, afterall, a model car board and we are posting pictures of model cars.

I like the idea, but that's just my opinion. I guess we'll let the board owners decide next year if we should do it or not.

Raul,

Like you I was reluctant to post my builds for the year, But after looking at so many other great builds, I decided to put mine up.

I know that I'm not in the same class with most of the builders on here, I'm still rather proud of my accomplishments and I still feel as though I'm accepted here as "One of the gang".

Looking at everyones "Year in review" means a lot to me because I didn't join the board until July, So I'm seeing some builds that I didn't see when they were first posted.

Also like you, I agree that if this isn't a tradition, It should be.

I've enjoyed looking at everyones builds and I'm looking forward to seeing more in the up coming year. :P:D

Ed,

As far as I'm concerned, there are only two classes of model builders:

1) those that build;

2) those that don't build (but want to).

Keep up the GREAT work,

But Anywhoo.

A year in remembrance.

Great Idea..

I love it.

I thinks it's grand. There are many pluses and few minuses. The only real negative I think is the potential clutter. I agree with Erik about a separate forum and with Lyle about the ONE picture per build convention (rule?) - these two suggestions will eliminate the clutter.

Otherwise, for me it serves to bring back the memory of so many old favorites and as many new ones I somehow missed. To that end, it would be great to include links to the Under Glass post if one exists. Also, the opportunity to see multiple builds by the same modeler all at once gives me a sense of their creativity and style. For some the craftsmanship and consistency is astounding, for others it's the range and variety that just blows me away. But in every way it's ALL GOOD!

BTW, the reason I posted my '08 builds (like so many others, I at first resisted it because I thought it was kind of an ego trip) was because prior to January 1st, it was happening quite a lot over on the TRaK board (where I think it was also a new thing - yes or no, Bob?) and I was enjoying it so much I had to join in. Like Ed I realized that regardless of my comparative level of skill I felt a certain pride of achievement in what I had pulled off over the past 12 months so... what the heck!

It is great Raul. It's quite inspirational to look at everyone's builds, and it is like a contest annual (for comparison purposes). There were a few who posted up their 2007 year in review last year, but NOWHERE NEAR the turnout this year had. I was reluctant this year as well, but after a few more (yourself included) decided to post mine. I say everyone make it a tradition.

Later,

I too have been a little reluctant to post my builds of 2008,

being a member of this forum for only a year also...didn't know if this was a normal thing or not :P

I have enjoyed lookin' at all of the 2008 builds that have been posted so far. :)

The big problem I have, as you know is the number of models I can pump out in a year...I know it's o'er 20 for 2008! :P;) being as though ya can only post 10 photos per thread, it's gonna take two if not three seperate threads to post all of'em :(

...probably take an hour to just pull the photos out of fotki...

Curt, my old friend; I think that you could hold your own model show with as much as you build in a year!! :D I don't know how you do it, especially with as much time as you spend with your girls and all of their own hobbies and activities!! :P You must have some sort of time machine that you haven't shown me!!

So, spend the hour finding your favorite pics of each of your builds and get busy posting!! If you want to limit it to 10 builds, stick with the ones that you built for yourself!!
