I recently got 2 of the reissue Pete tow truck. How does it differ, if at all from the California 359?
I have the Cali 359, but it is built and in a glass case.
If it is the same truck, are there any changes other than the tow bed specific to the tow kit?

I believe they're completely different kits. I know the CH kit has the early grille and the wrecker has the later standard production grille. The cab of the CH kit is the "little window" cab while the wrecker has the "1100 series" cab. The CH kit has a Detroit 8v-71, the wrecker has a Cummins engine. The bumpers and tanks and other parts are different too.

Yes they share nothing.
The California Hauler with the small window Unilite cab kit was the first ever semi truck kit AMT did back in 1969 with kit No T500-500 and was reissued as a wrecker 1972 with kit No T522 and with a sleeper 1973 kit No T500.
The later 1100 series cab kit with the Cummins engine came 1975 as kit no T501 and it was reissued several times with different kit numbers, and was also issued with the same wrecker body as the earlier kit had as Kit No T533 wich now has No 1133, the box art on the latest issue is based on the early T522 kit but that was blue and white on the box instead of red and white.
The early kit was not issued again until 2014 as kit No 866.

Wow, thank you both for that info. I just didn’t look that close at the, and I would have never known the kit history and numbers. Thank you.
