Seems to be a weak point in the construction of these..... Expand I am lucky I didn't burn mine down. I had it in the shop for something (I did most of my own work, but certain things were not appealing to do at home) and got a call that I needed the rubber fuel and return lines in the engine compartment replaced. Surprised that they hadn't leaked a long time ago and the car had less than 100k on it. The hoses weren't in an obvious enough place that they would be seen unless you were looking for them. The only oil leak I ever had was from the thermostat for the engine oil cooler. Fairly simple DIY re-seal with ~$12 in parts. After having a Mustang, I was surprised at how inexpensive parts were for the BMW and how EVERYTHING was still available. I never broke anything expensive, but normal maintenance and wear items were cheaper than the Mustang for the most part. Edited February 26, 2022 by Rodent
JollySipper Posted May 21, 2022 Author Posted May 21, 2022 What better way to learn about the Bimmers than to build one? This is the Fujimi Enthusiast kit....... Looks like a super nice kit, if a bit overwhelming! It being my first EM kit, I hope I can do it justice........
stavanzer Posted May 25, 2022 Posted May 25, 2022 I worked on them for a year. Worst cars to work on, that I have ever touched. Truly misreable cars, with no room, and a company wide case of "Hide the Oil Filter!". No two Bemews (Thanks Ace!) seem to have the Filter in the same place, even when they share an engine. You could not pay me enough to own one.
JollySipper Posted May 3, 2023 Author Posted May 3, 2023 "Variable ratio power rack-and-pinion steering system"......... It's no wonder folks think the newer Bimmer-dubs are bloated and overly complicated. I follow a site on IG called 'bimmertips' ( if you're a fan, you should check it out ) and today's post was on this. The M5 from before 2016 had this system.......

Last Beemus I have any use for were the 633 cars. https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/archive/article/august-1977/29/road-test-near-perfection-the-bmw-633-csi Pretty much loved everything they built up to that point, then they seemed to me to go off the rails in a mad rush to make them hell to work on and unnecessarily complex. 2002s are wonderful, light, simple, well balanced, fun to drive. 2.8 / 3.0 CS were also wonderful cars, remarkably fast and fine handling. The sedans from the period were kinda sleepers too. I got in a highly illegal on-road race (me in a 2800 sedan) with a Pantera one night long ago, and he could never pass me. Part of town I used to live in decades ago, the yups drove 3-series (the E21 replacement for the 2002), thought they were hot stuff....but my hot-rod 2-liter Pinto would smoke 'em all. EDIT: '73 3.0 CS, below. It's every bit as good as it looks. Expand Had one. Imported the car from Italy. It’s the one I should have not let go. I am a BMW certified body tech . The cars are beautiful and some are great. Read your reviews on the car you want. Better have deep pockets as they are very high maintenance. Had a 2002 way back when and loved that car also. Just be careful and do your research . BMW have lemons also. Good luck on your future purchase.

JollySipper Posted August 23, 2023 Author Posted August 23, 2023 Hey, fellas! I had a quick question...... I've discovered this magazine called 'Werke' which is, naturally, all about BMWs. I'm wanting to get a subscription, but they've already put out the first two and I don't want to miss out on those. Where online could I maybe order copies of this mag? It's a quarterly, and like I said, the first issues are out already. My computer doesn't work well with their site for some reason, or I would just order from them........ I hope you guys can help....
