M W Elky Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 This build is a box stock mpc 1971 mustang funny car with Fremont resin decals. It has paint by testors on the body, and tamyia on the chassis tin. In the future I would like to make some aluminum spoiler extensions for it. I think the mpc kit builds the best looking 1971-73 mustang funny car. The johan kit builds up nice too but I think the body is a little too stock looking for the cut down mini bodies of that time period. Just my opinion. Also inside this issue of HI-PERFORMANCE CARS are some nice color reference features on the wonder wagon, and the custom body cuda funny cars. I think that I can say that for all of us mustang funny car builders and Stone Woods & Cooke fans that we would love for one of the decal makers to make up a sheet to do the S.W&C tinker bell to fit the polar lights mustang F/C.. 1
iBorg Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 Nice build. Interesting comment on the body. I think both the Revell and MPC body tries to capture this era and both miss in the wind shield area. MPC got a LOT closer. I prefer the Johan body but you need to look at the actual car you're trying to build. In this era there were several companies that made funny car bodies. What was right for the SWC Mustang would not be right for the Mickey Thompson Mustang that Johan molded.
Chris in Berwyn Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 Very nice! Each of those three Mustang bodies has its issues - this is a great rendition of the SWC Mustang! Would you mind posting a shot of the Custom Body FC from the magazine?
