Was this odd VW truck a real vehicle?

I have to say, for a 1/18, $300+ diecast, the representation of the engine set up in the pictures on the web site looks awful...

This is a resin model, but yeah, that engine is lacking.

 

Thanks for the response, folks,  My web searches only brought up dealers of the model.  I don't know how I missed this one, given all the weird creations I've seen in the VW forums over the years.
