Clay Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 (edited) Maybe this will help make it easier... Hello, Welcome to Model Cars Magazine forums, the newest (and best!) online forum about our favorite hobby. Thank you for stopping by and we strive to create a safe and fun atmosphere for everyone. If you want to join up, then click on the “Registration†in the upper right of the page and complete the online form. If you choose to use a “handle†or user name that is not your proper name, then please put your full name in the signature box found in the Profile section when you register on this board. To help us weed out the spammers, please put or mention Model Cars either in the interests or hobbies section. After you click on the “submit†button an email will be sent to one of the moderators who will activate your account. NOTE: If you do not want to look like a spammer, you will complete the hobbies and other special interest section to make it easy to tell the real hobbyist from the “fly by night†scum of the earth trying to destroy all that is good in this world. To receive Instant Messages or PM's, make sure your browser is set to accept Pop Up windows. You can do this when you access the forum, or on some systems, you can tell the Pop Up Blocker to allow Pop Ups from the forum (http://www.modelcarsmag.com). Once your account has been activated you can log in to the forum and start posting. Please remember to follow these basic Forum rules: 1) No vulgar language. This board was created for modelers of all ages and offensive language is completely unacceptable. 2) Demeaning comments will not be tolerated. We believe that encouraging and/or constructive criticism can help, but putting a person down does not accomplish anything for the community. 3) If you choose to use a handle or user name that is not your proper name, then please put your full name in the signature box found in the Profile section of your account under Profile. 4) Please note this is an open forum and it is monitored. We do not allow any illegal activity. Any posting of illegally copyrighted material will mean immediate dismissal and banning from the board. 5) Links to other web sites and forums are okay if they are within the topic being discussed. Links to offensive material will be removed and the poster banned! 6) If you have any problems logging in or registering, please email Gregg at gregg@modelcarsmag.com Welcome aboard and have a great time! Clay Posted January 12, 2009 Author Posted January 12, 2009 I felt it needed to be posted, it took me a little while to find the rules. Just thought this would be easier.
Fuel Coupe Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I don't see anything on it but what about users having multiple accounts. always seems shady to me...
Eshaver Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I don't see anything on it but what about users having multiple accounts. always seems shady to me... Multiple accounts , now who would do such a thing..................... interesting............. Ed Shaver
Fuel Coupe Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 yep Mods, I bet if you dug a bit you'll find some multiple accounts for one user...
Harry P. Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I don't see anything on it but what about users having multiple accounts. always seems shady to me... Since you're checking out the rules... Have you seen the one where you're supposed to put your full name in your signature?
george 53 Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 I have 2 accounts here. So do a coupla other members. It wouldn't let me in once so I started a new account on my daughters computer. But I remember one of the other guys did it too, when it did the same thing to him.
Harry P. Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 There's no specific rule against having more than one account.
Fuel Coupe Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 (edited) Since you're checking out the rules... Have you seen the one where you're supposed to put your full name in your signature? I do believe in some anonymity on the net ( merely for identity theft issues Which I have had happen to me).so if I'm guilty of breaking the rules then and will continue to break that one. George, I'm talking about creating and using multiple accounts. I believe what you did isn't an issue if you cant access the original one... Harrypri: if theres no specific rule then thats it. just wanted to bring it up. Edited January 13, 2009 by TxRat

George, I'm talking about creating and using multiple accounts. I believe what you did isn't an issue if you cant access the original one... Harrypri: if theres no specific rule then thats it. just wanted to bring it up. Identity theft? Newsflash: your full name and a whole lot more about you is already online in more places than you even realize. Ever buy anything online? Ever paid a bill online? Have any bank accounts that you opened online? Do you have a credit card? Ever even applied for a credit card? A debit card? A checking account? Do you own a car? Have you ever voted? Do you have a social security card? Any of those things, and many more, put your personal information "out there". Putting your full name in your signature line here has absolutely no bearing on how safe you are from identity theft. Your name and personal info is already in so many places it would make your head spin. Adding your full name to your signature here won't make one bit of difference as far as your online security. If the bad guys want your info, it's already out there in cyberspace...

Im through with it...
Harry P. Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 If you feel better turning this around on me than dealing with the problem I brought up This is a dead issue to me. Im through with it... There is no board rule against multiple accounts. But there is a rule that says you're supposed to put your full name in your signature line. I didn't make the rules... I'm just telling you what they are.
Fuel Coupe Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 There is no board rule against multiple accounts. Thanks Boss
Jon Cole Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Clay, if you feel the need for the rules to be posted, why not ask the board moderator to do so? Taking this upon yourself... makes you sound like you are "above" the rest of us. Hopefully, this entire thread should be reposted by the management of the board, thus earning the respect it requires, rather than grandstanding. No disrespect meant to anyone. Nuff said. Jon
LDO Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 It's not always about identity theft. Sometimes an internet stalker just wants to post info about you on a completely unrelated website. I used to be on a political forum. There's one guy there who averages 19 posts per day. He has been know to call law enforcement in the town of people who disagree with him. He'll tell LEOs that Joe is up to no good. He posted info about me from other sites. He requested a medical book from one of those "Call now for an informative book..." type places and had it sent to me. He's not trying to take money from me, but harassment rarely is about money. I know I rant about non-descriptive thread titles, but I do not play mini-mod. Two thumbs down for the OP.
mikemodeler Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 I think Gregg himself went through an incident where someone decided to sign him up for a bunch of magazines last year-some kind of "funny" joke I suppose. While I agree that if one wanted to dig deep enough my name, address, date of birth etc could be found via the internet, I refuse to make it easy for them by withholding my last name. If I am in violation of the rules, send me to the principal's office and call my Mother! MIKE
Harry P. Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 For those of you who actually think that keeping your last name off this site is somehow "protecting" you, you are sadly mistaken. Like I said before, if anyone wants to seriously make your life miserable, they have dozens and dozens of places to find far more information than just your last name. Keeping your last name hidden on this site has absolutely no effect on your overall internet privacy or security. Think about this: ALL of you on this site obviously have internet access, right? Which means you all have signed up for internet service from someone...right??? Does your internet service provider know your name, first and last? Yeah, I think so. And so do many others...
LDO Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 No need to make it easy for them, either. Not all a-holes are computer gurus.
Harry P. Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 No need to make it easy for them, either. Not all a-holes are computer gurus. No not all are computer gurus, but you can bet that the ones who make their "living" committing web crimes sure are!
mikemodeler Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Well I guess I could delete my membership and just become a lurker, would that satisfy all? Geez Harry, is the snow and cold getting to you so bad that debating whether or not my last name is displayed THAT important? I would think that there are more important issues to deal with than why my last name is missing.

Jon I by no means feel that I am "above" anyone here. People wanted to bring up the name rule so I decided that all the rules needed to be looked at as well. And you forget, I am a Sergeant in the Marines, and if taking things upon myself is what needs to be done to get it done, then thats what I do.
