That metallic blue looks awesome already and not the hint of a brush stroke. Thanks Mark. First time using Silver instead of Metal Medium as a metalizer element and I initially struggled a bit but made it work with more thinning.

In my experiments the only brand that I could successfully brush paint plus the ability to mix my own colors. Edited December 2, 2022 by Pierre Rivard
absmiami Posted December 2, 2022 Author Posted December 2, 2022 Thats right - i forgot - you’re the unique forum contributor who is brave enough to brush paint the bodies …
absmiami Posted December 2, 2022 Author Posted December 2, 2022 The frame is lengthened by cutting it apart just forward of the pegs and adding Renshape from the same slice used to lengthen the bonnett - should in theory be the correct length - matching the new longer bonnett …
absmiami Posted December 2, 2022 Author Posted December 2, 2022 I thought i mite move the engine mounts back a smidge - but my mockup w the engine casting tells me that i should not change this ….
absmiami Posted December 2, 2022 Author Posted December 2, 2022 ... because my shot of the engine bay of 2287 - taken when I got lucky at the Simeone - years ago - shows that the added space between the engine and the bulkhead is close to spec and now there is room for all of those fiddly details behind the engine ...

Steering arm running in between exhaust header pipes... now that's packaging creativity and will be fun to model in 1/24 scale!
absmiami Posted December 2, 2022 Author Posted December 2, 2022 Shall we call that packaging creativity or gross design negligence ?? The late Venom was actually able to build this kit with the steering arm wiggling thru the pipes - the added engine bay space will make this a little easier for me … but i can’t believe that Shelby signed off on this …
absmiami Posted December 4, 2022 Author Posted December 4, 2022 Second primer coat - not there yet - flat spots fr sanding and some visible pores in the Renshape …. Using some white Tamiya primer to fill in the pores …. and i always carefully follow the directions on the bottle …
absmiami Posted December 4, 2022 Author Posted December 4, 2022 Prepping some of the suspension parts - here’s how they attach to the frame - the leaf springs on the front susp assembly will probably have to be re-done …
absmiami Posted December 4, 2022 Author Posted December 4, 2022 The exhausts are pressed into holes drilled into the cyl heads to check their run and fit - left side Looks better than the right - we’ll see …
absmiami Posted December 4, 2022 Author Posted December 4, 2022 The panels rocker panels have a tendency to curl in under the body … this is a mjor problem for several reasons …. I had tried to straighten them in hot water but they did not hold their shape …
absmiami Posted December 4, 2022 Author Posted December 4, 2022 The fix required razor sawing a slot along the door line to “loosen” the panel - just short of removing it - then I glued the inner door panel and a sill that i made from L shaped Evergreen - this was wedged in under the door panel and forced the rocker to “uncurl” … by doing this i recaptured over two scale inches of body height - this was critical - because of the way in which the body attaches to the interior …
Pierre Rivard Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 Good progress on that Coupe. Seems like there is some curvature on the chassis rails. Is that the way they were designed or a visual distortion from the pictures? Just wondering cause the frame on my AMT kit is straight.
Smilesperhour Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 Dependent on time, I may try pick up a Revell cobra and join the fun, looks like some nice cars coming along so far
absmiami Posted December 4, 2022 Author Posted December 4, 2022 Thanks smiles - let us know the kit frame does have a kink in its forward members- i’ve got some ref pix fr Gramps that i can double check … hard to tell fr photos of the eng bay on a complete car…
absmiami Posted December 5, 2022 Author Posted December 5, 2022 That Cobra replica sitting forlornly in my mechanics shop posed for a shot of its beak…. That subtle curve visible looking down is correct - there is a great shot of 2287’s nose in 1964 in the Doug Morton Collection site …. The kit nose lacks this curve - gotta fix that …

absmiami Posted December 5, 2022 Author Posted December 5, 2022 Too bad that Musk no longer seems to be interested in automotive design …. Do you think that - say - ten years ago - he had Pete Brock on speed dial ??
Smilesperhour Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 Tesla is a very visually challenged design. Front nose looks a lot better with that reshape
absmiami Posted December 6, 2022 Author Posted December 6, 2022 Great save, Pierre Great! save … this picture was, i think, snapped by Dave Friedman, who was tabbed by Shelby to document the Daytona Coupe’s development and team racing in ‘64 And ‘65 … and as you can see - the frame rails are as straight as arrows…
absmiami Posted December 6, 2022 Author Posted December 6, 2022 Dunked for about a minute in very hot water - not boiling - just Hot - then taped to a flat surface - the frame rails straighten out and behave … because we don’t want no kinky Daytona Coupe frames …
absmiami Posted December 6, 2022 Author Posted December 6, 2022 Pierre Just saved me a whole lot of trouble - and so did Gramps …
