Here's a little tip for anyone who's building an early 60s Pontiac or Mopar with a transparent steering wheel, and an opportunity to use some of that unfortunate Testors clear enamel in a spray can.

As it's pretty much standard for these transparent steering wheels to show discoloration virtually every time you see one, spray a little Testors clear enamel into a cup and brush it onto the clear portion of the steering wheel.

I knew I'd find a practical use for this stuff some day. ;)

Thanks Steve! Your timing is impeccable as I have 4 clear steering wheels for my Big Girls batch build.

I used a similar approach on my '64 Grand Prix project.

I don't remember that last time that I actually saw a car with a transparent steering wheel that hadn't yellowed, and this "clear" paint is the perfect yellowing formula. ^_^

Steven, I like the transparent steering wheel so much that I have decided to incorporate the detail into the restoration work that I have ongoing with an original ‘60 Buick Invicta. The kit steering wheel doesn’t look right (at least the one that was on the glue bomb) and your idea is a welcomed solution to the situation. Thanks!  ?

As far as I know, transparent steering wheels were not an option on any Buick’s if you’re trying to achieve something close to stock, but if it’s just a custom touch you’re after, go for it.

Custom it will be, Steve, as it was in quite "rough" condition when I received the model. I am keeping as much of the original look as I can and using artistic license on the rest. It's all fun!
