Terry Sumner Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Got a friend who wants me to build a replica of his car, this (I think) 68 or 69 Barracuda notchback. Does any resin caster out there make this body? Thanks in advance, Terry Sumner Hosted on Fotki
MrObsessive Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Terry, Modelhaus makes a '67 notchback...........the differences are subtle, but the purists out there can spot the changes. Click here to check it out............
Terry Sumner Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 Thanks for the quick replies guys. I went to the Modelhaus site. No photo there but I found one currently on eBay. Man that looks really nice. Juha did the master it says so I know it's gonna be good. I'm going to watch the one on eBay for now...maybe I can get that one for a bit less than the $79 Modelhaus price. The AFX one looks pretty good to. Will look that one up. The owner of the car even gave me a pint of the paint he painted his real car with. Who knows...maybe I can submit it for a future Is It Real? Terry
MrObsessive Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I have the one you have pictured Dave............and it's a real nice body! Juha always does excellent conversions and this one's no exception! A least with the Modelhaus kit you get a complete kit with chassis and all in case you don't have the Barracuda fastback to kitbash it with. And of course you get that excellent Modelhaus quality!
george 53 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 AFX???? ARE they STILL in buisness???? They shouldn't be, after all the folks they've ripped of, or tried to! STAY AWAY from them! They ARE bad news! Unless there's something we all should know!?!
Terry Sumner Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 Either one will work for me as I have an MPC fastback kit to use for the parts. I know about AFX's bad past, but AFX was recently sold and it says on their website that they're not ready yet. Still.... Terry
george 53 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Well Thanks for the info Terry, Yes, I din't know it was sold! They REALLY had some well cast bodies.I got their 68 GTO, and it was just as nice as a plastic kit, but it took 6 mos. and reapeated threats to get my item! Here's hopein that's ALL behind them now! Thanks again!
Terry Sumner Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 Well Thanks for the info Terry, Yes, I din't know it was sold! Thanks again! From what I was told by another modeler who knows them...Wendell and Monica split up, Monica was trying to actually do the pouring, etc and was trying to make good on some of the old orders. But she sold the business to another fellow (don't know his name) and supposedly the new guy is reviving the goods and when he gets set up, will have a new website. If you go to the AFX website yoou'll see this message in big bold letters... "A/FX N Scale Resin has been sold to another proprietor. When he gets everything set up where he can work I'm sure he will set up another web site. He will also take care of any old order's." It's been a while now though so I have no idea when this will happen...IF it ever does... Terry
george 53 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 AH YES, the BIG IF,,,,,,, Haven't we all heard that, eh? Well at least I do hope they can get it going again, cause they did have some really nicely cast models. Thanks for the update Terry I REALLY do appericiate it! ( now I won't bad mouth 'em anymore!)
Terry Sumner Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 it's a bit off topic, but the new owner of AFX apparently is getting bombarded with angry folks who never got thier orders. the website claiming that he is going to take care of any old orders certainly isn't helping any either. from my understanding the new owner is NOT going to fill any old orders, it's not his problem. at one point AFXnScale was one of the top resin companies producing parts and bodies, but then when things went down hill, they went in a serious hurry. it's unfortunate and i think they should have been honest with the customers. Dave Yes you're right. I know that if it had been me that bought the masters and molds, I wouldn't want to take on the past problems either. Wasn't the new owner's fault. I hope he does get it rolling though because there were indeed a lot of items they had that were very good! Terry PS..did you get my return PM?
Terry Sumner Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 For anyone else who may read this topic, I have just purchased a body from Dave. So thanks so much for the help! Terry
BigGary Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 I didn't notice anybody addressing this so I'll throw in my 2 cents. The Cuda notchback in the picture is a '69. The giveaway is the side marker lights. The '67, which I had, didn't have side marker lights. The '68 had those little round lights that all '68 Chrysler products had. The '69 had the big rectangular lights you see in the picture and were used for several years in variations. My '67 Barracuda Notch was given to me when I got married in '72. My mother bought it new in late '67 after the '68's had already come out. I drove it for 3 years, then bought a red and white '73 Charger. Everybody seemed to want to buy that car from me. I eventually traded it in on a Nova. Gary
Starliner Kustoms Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Hey Terry, I did one of these a few years ago. It was a great kit to work with. I may have some pic's of it I will send to you. Hope everything is well. Bernie
