Vito321 Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 I am working on a 1/43 resin kit from France of the 1988 Jaguar XJR9 and am having some difficulty getting primer and paint to adhere to the body. I've cleaned the body several time using everything from Dawn dish detergent to mineral spirits to lacquer thinner and each time the primer does the fish eyes routine. My most recent attempt at priming is with Dupont flexible acrylic primer; the stuff you'd use when doing a plastic bumper on a real car in a body shop. So far it seems to be fine. Any other suggestions? At this point I'm thinking of Dupli-Color Oxford White over the primer but I'll do the spoon test first. Thanks in advance for you assistance.
70mach1 Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 Adhesion promoter. available at most paint stores. make sure you specify its going to be used for urethane resin. It has no film build up so no detail will be lost.
Shark Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 I always let resin soak in Westley's Bleach White tire cleaner for at least 24 hours, then scrub with an old tooth brush. Good thing about resin is the hotter paints don't affect it.
espo Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 After a good cleaning of the resin parts, get a spray can of an automotive type of self-etching primer. This will give most model and craft type paints something to cling to since they don't seem to do well over bare resin parts.
robdebie Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 If you have an ultrasonic cleaner, try the cleaning agents mentioned by others in that bath, or in a separate container in that bath. The cleaning power is multiplied many times by the ultrasonic action. Rob
