1972coronet Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 I saw this listing on eBay and thought, It would be great if Round2 were to work their magick via scan-and-update (Nova Wagon, Coronet, GTO) on it. Thoughts? Vintage OPEN BOX! MPC 1968 Camaro SS396 in 1/25 Scale - 1968 Annual Issue | eBay
Snake45 Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 Like ALL 1/25 '67-'68 Camaro kits I know of, it has its flaws. I have an original in my "To Be Rebuilt" stash. Probably the best of the '67-'68 Camaro kits was the original AMT '67 annual, but it has its flaws, too. 1 1
Mark Posted March 4, 2023 Posted March 4, 2023 With Round 2 already having a '67/'68 Camaro, my guess is that there are a bunch of other things they'd retool first.
pack rat Posted March 4, 2023 Posted March 4, 2023 The MPC '68 Camaro is an old favorite of mine. The kit's only glaring flaw that I can recall is the incorrect '67-style taillights; there may be other issues I've forgotten about or didn't notice. It's interesting to compare the MPC '68 and the AMT '67; they're strangely similar. Not as close as the Barracuda and Chevy pickups, but close enough to make you wonder... The pictured kit has had the taillights dummied-up to look more correct and wears modified MPC Corvette rally wheels. The kit wheels are chrome-plated one-piece steel wheels with dog-dishes, unusual for annuals back then.,,,and a feature shared with the AMT '67, coincidentally. A reissue would be nice, but there are plenty of 1st-gen Camaro kits out there already. 2 1

I Agree 100% with you on the taillights i built one last summer and the taillights were incredibly frustrating. 3 1
1972coronet Posted March 5, 2023 Author Posted March 5, 2023 I didn't realise it was so ripe with errors, as I've only ever had the (horrid) 1969 hardtop & convertible (both with a Pontiac V8 !), and that was in the late 1980s. Given the long lead on promotions -- magazine test cars (oftentimes pilot vehicles) , and plastic promos-come-kits -- some de facto errors are expected. Apparently, MPC received early (likely, Spring 1967) blueprints, and worked from those. For an instance, the 1972 Duster annual I have: its decal sheet was printed in May 1971 -- some 3-5 months before the 1:1's reached the showrooms. I, too, noticed the 'steelies-with-hubcaps' combo per the listing, and as mentioned by @pack rat. Regardless of the presence of existing 1967-1968 & 1969 Camaro, I still feel that a nice, accurate 1968 would sell like mad. The AMT Zed is a decent offering, but...
