ranma Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 I just got the new AMT '68 Pontiac GTO kit and as nice as it really is It to me needs a better detailed Chassis. So I looked at the '69 Chevelle also by amt But even though they are sisters the chassis is just a bit short in wheel base. So on to the second sister the AMT '69 Oldsmobile 442, which I found has the same wheel base as the GTO kit, and fit's the interior bucket as well. So when I start building the '68 GTO it will have the detailed Olds chassis, firewall and other under the hood items as well. 1
ranma Posted March 14, 2023 Author Posted March 14, 2023 Sorry that I didn't have photo's when I started this thread, but my camera batteries were dead. So here are the needed photo's. The chassis plate (white) is the GTO Next to it is the '69 Chevelle chassis, and under the GTO is the '69 Oldsmobile's Chassis plate.
thatz4u Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Rick, I'm doing the same conversion, AMT 69 Olds chassis, Revell Firebird Engine, had to modify the exhaust system so far....
Rob Hall Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Haven’t thought about doing a swap on one of mine, but the chassis, engine, etc from a ‘72 GTO should work.

It's just as not nicely detailed as the chassis from the 69 Oldsmobile kit. Three thing's standout against using the '72 Chassis. First is the front suspension, Second the pipes molded to the rear axle and the cutouts on the gas tank for the annual's screws. This don't include the poor rendering of the strike plate on the front suspension, The '69 Oldsmobile's chassis is close to what a '68 GTO had. 1

SAE had a kitbash article about this also, in the Feb. 2020 issue, it's on the 35yr CD also Edited March 15, 2023 by thatz4u
