khier Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 Dear all, I had some leftover mixed tone Tamiya acrylic paint. I tried to try again the colour mixing story. Finally, I ended up with metallic orange. Although I like it as a period representative colour, I couldn't find a single Chevelle in an even close shade. As it is always with this hobby: we live and learn, and try to make the next model better. Regards 1
rickcaps55 Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 I love it that would look great with a bright white inside or a med tan.!! 2

I was torn between white/tan interior or a colour matching the exterior, say, a dull, grayesh shade of the exterior. I guess I wil apply light tan or cream colour.
khier Posted April 7, 2023 Author Posted April 7, 2023 Hesitated a long time about the interior. Finally, I decided to an interior colour matching the exterior. The result is not bad except: 1- I sprayed plastic parts (dash, center console....etc) dark grey first to give it a dull look. It didn't work. 2- I wanted a darker interior than the exterior. I got the opposite. 1
espo Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Great looking color. The Chevelles did have the option of the Hugger Orange paint that is usually seen on Camaros from 1969, but I wouldn't change this. For the interior you might try using some Tamiya X-19 Smoke to accent some of the seat and door panel lines. The radio speaker grills and defroster vents on the top of the dash could be done as well.
ea0863 Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 I've taken to using Mr. Super Clear Matt Finishing Spray whenever I want to knock the sheen off of a paint job. It works perfect for interiors.
Deathgoblin Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 I had a '72 Buick Skylark hardtop that color. It was Flame Orange with a white vinyl top and white/black interior. Loved that car.
khier Posted April 11, 2023 Author Posted April 11, 2023 The decals and BMF work are finished. Ready for a clear coat. 2
khier Posted April 19, 2023 Author Posted April 19, 2023 Frustrated by a paint disaster, I turned my attention to the '68 kit. I applied the primer successfully and wanted to lay a black coat under metallic paint. It became tooooo thick. ?. I will either strip and start allover again, or remain with the black, which I hate, and keep the decals without a protective clear layer. April is certainly not my lucky month. 1
khier Posted April 20, 2023 Author Posted April 20, 2023 Stripped the black and airbrushed decanted gold paint. It looked perfect in the spoon test, and by the first layers. However, later layers became grainy. I thinned the paint and reduced the air pressure but nothing helped.
