Hey guys at a model show this past weekend I picked up a 65 or 66 Corvette roadster that I thought was a built kit, it was heavily painted in metallic green, the chassis was red. It had no glass or interior. As it was $3 I grabbed it! So when I got it home I noticed it had a promo chassis. I took the body off and dunked it in stripper. I originally thought the hood was glued shut but it was molded in and the body is molded in red also. This did not have any bumpers or grille either. So I’m guessing this is a promo but I wanted to see if any one new what year this is, I looked a little online but all I found was a black 65 promo. I would post pics but it’s still in the stripper, Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

A 65 or 66 has 3 vertical "gills" in the front fender. 63 & 64 Vettes have 2 horizontal indentions, while the 67 only has 7 (I believe) vertical gills.

To narrow down between '63 and '64, '63 should have grilles in the hood indentations. To narrow between '65 and '66, '65 should have Fuel Injection emblems on the front fenders.  '66 no longer had FI so one of those would not have them.

Thanks guys! It is definitely not a 63 or 64 as the side vents are 3 vertical indentations. The 65 and 66 both have this and I didn't know if there were any other ways to tell them apart. Mark I will check for the fuel injection emblems on the fenders. Also I think pretty much I could use any bumpers but would need a specific grille and does anyone know if the interiors have a lot of differences? I want to "restore" this as the body is in really good shape but I don't think I will find original parts to easy!

'63-'65 can use a '63 grille/front bumpers unit, '66-'67 grille has vertical bars but the earlier part will still fit. Rear bumpers and taillight parts should be the same for all.

Interior upholstery pattern and door panel details differ for each year.  If you don't have the correct interior, go with a black interior so as not to draw attention to it.

That is a nice looking promo! That does look like the color of mine, that has the same wheels also. When I get home I’m going to see if it had the girlie badges so I have a correct year and start looking for parts!

So it looks like this is the 65, has the fuel injected emblems and the wheels are the same as Toms coupe! Thanks for all the info guys! Here are a couple pic after I’ve been working on stripping the very heavy green paint that was on it, I almost have it all off!
