Scale Model Car/Truck/Trailer displays at a museums

Recommended Posts

I am always pleasantly surprised to find a nice model kit/promo/scratch built scale car/truck/trailer displays at museums.

Over the last couple years, I have taken some pictures at museums, and I wanted to share them with you all.

I searched for this topic and didn’t find anything so I will start this one.

Below are pictures from The Museum of American Speed (the Speedway Museum) in Lincoln, NE.

This display was formerly in the Daryl Starbird Museum.

Below are pictures from ACD and National Auto and Truck Museum in Auburn, IN (they are next door to each other).

The Cord models are from the ACD Museum and the case with promos is from the National Auto and Truck Museum.

The Cord models are truly amazing!

I have been to The Gilmore, the A-C-D and National and the displays are great. I will be at the Speedway Museum this summer on my way to Bonneville. That will be most interesting as I have built models for Darry Starbird (Ultra Truck / Orange Hauler, stock  and the gasser version) and Bob Larivee (Zingers and other showcars) and I can see some of my builds in the showcases :) I am looking forward to saying HI to my builds :)

The former Hotstetler collection of Hudson cars in Shipshewana IN had a small selection of related models and toys.

My father and I saw it in 2016, and sadly the museum closed and the collection was auctioned off just a few years later.

There are numerous small museums in downtown Pontiac, IL.  Above the Route 66 Hall of Fame and Museum there is the Life In the 1940's exhibit which had all sorts of household items, including this WWII era model aircraft kit.

Like so many wood craftsman kits, it's "mint and unbuilt".  🙂

In Hammondsport, NY is the Glenn Curtiss museum, dedicated to the tinkerer of aircraft and motorcycles.  There were numerous models on display, along with various items from industries and people from the area around Hammondsport.

The school bus was 1:4 scale model built by the Mercury Aircraft factory (Penn Yan Buses Div.).  It seems to me the nose is taken from a toy of the period.  The bus bodies were constructed of aluminum.
