Can someone tell me if there's any difference between these two versions aside from the packaging? I've been building the bottom one and it's not been a happy experience.

Same basic kit but the top one is stock only and doesn't have the optional parts for the lowered suspension, wheels etc.

The only difference is probably the price. :D

I did a comparison of the instructions and they're the same kit with the exception of the optional parts as Steve pointed out.

Thanks. The instructions are exactly the same. Things went OK until it came to the final assembly of the chassis/interior with the body. It was very difficult and the end result was not good. I also managed to lose one of the tail light lenses to the Evil Part Gobbling Floor Monster, but I guess I can't blame that on the kit. I've given up on it for now and am debating whether or not to buy another one and have another go at it. It's frustrating because that's probably my favorite of the T-Birds and this seems to be the only kit ever made of it.

AMT made annual kits of every year Thunderbird in hardtop and convertible versions for every year from '58 or '59 right up to '71.

I have several of them myself.

This '61 hardtop is the only " bullitt bird" I have finished so far but I also have '62 and '63s in both hardtop and convertible.

Simpler promo based kits but look great when done up.

Send me a PM if you're in need of the stock taillights........ I used the custom ones on my build.

This is actually a really nice kit IF you know going in that the interior is a bit too wide at the dash...... This issue has came up several times, which is why it's helpful to read build threads and reviews of kits that you are interested in.   B)

Roger that. I have several from '59-'66. I picked up a nice mint '64 HT promo a while back and will do the same.

Yes, the interior being too wide at the dash was exactly the problem. It didn't occur to me to look here for build threads...another lesson learned. I appreciate the offer of the taillights. I really butchered the interior trying to get it to fit, so I'll probably buy another kit rather than trying to save this one. Did a Google search for AMT T-Birds and didn't find any other bullit bird kits, so I guess I'm stuck with this one. At least I now know what the problems will be.
