anyone put a small block in one and what to use for oil pan with the rear steer on the Impala . Most pans I have tried hit the steering . Thanks Jack

I DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE, BUT, as the smallblock Chevy V8 was a standard engine option in that chassis, I'd think there wouldn't be anything special about the oil pan. If the engine and steering linkage are in the right place, the garden variety smallblock rear-sump pan would most likely fit fine.

It sounds like the engine is too far forward.  A small block should be a good fit. The engine location at the rear of the block is the same for both the big bock and small block.  The transmission mount/crossmember location would be a good reference - but the one thing that could throw you off there is the Turbo 400 trans on the big block is longer. - I'm not sure what transmissions were used on the small block.  (I had a big block 1967 Caprice back in a past life).

the kit has a 4 speed I am using a th400 both parts are the same length with the 400 mounted to the drive shaft most pan sumps are to long . After 2 days of digging and posting here I found a pan in the AMT 70 Z28 that works so thanks all.

Thank you for the response - good to know.  In real life, the Turbo 400 is about 4" longer than a Muncie.  The transmission c/m is different or moved back with a turbo 400.

Part of your problem is that the steering linkage on the model is kinda kludgey, and takes up more space than it does in reality. The big-block pan in the kit may have been creatively "adjusted" by the kit designers to compensate.
