MrMiles Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 i got a revell 1968 mustang fastback kit and the hood was severely warped. i tried to fix it but it cracked. I ordered another one, and that one is also warped, not as bad, but it doesnt sit flat. i had put in a request for a new hood on the revell site last week but i still have not received a response. im not buying a 3rd kit and now im stuck not being able to finish the model without a new hood. does anyone know how long they take to respond?
JET. Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 Good luck, I emailed them about a part like a year ago and never heard back.

ctruss53 Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 Have you tried contacting the store you bought it from? Sometimes the seller will take back kits as defective and replace them. And if you explain that you only bought the second one to fix the first one, then they should take them both back. If Revell doesn't reply, and the seller won't help you, I would dispute the charge on your credit card. Yeah, this might get me grief from the goody two shoes on the forum, but I don't tolerate paying for something that doesn't deliver. You paid for a kit, twice, and you still don't have a whole kit of sufficient quality. Demand a solution.
yh70 Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 why dont you try to straighten it out by putting in in some hot water for like a minuet and see it it will flex. if not leave it in their longer. if that dont work may be the water is not hot enough. once you get the hood sating on the car right clamp in in place and let it cool. you may have to do this a few times to get it right but i have straighten parts this way..
Rodent Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 Which hood are you using? The Cobra Jet one with the scoop, or the 390-style hood with the indentations for the turn signals? I probably have one of the 390 hoods. (Not all kit versions have both hoods) 1

(Not all kit versions have both hoods) its the stock hood, not the cobra jet with the hole in it. Right now i have taped it down and put it back in the box and i am going to work on a different model to see if works. im afraid to use hot water, the last time i did that, i actually made it worse
Rodent Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 I will look when I get home. Mine is being built as a CJ, so I should have a spare hood that I would be happy to send you.

Rodent Posted June 16, 2023 Posted June 16, 2023 This hood is really thin and soft, and mine has a little warp to it as well. That said, if you want it, it's yours. PM me your info and I will get it out by Saturday. BTW: as a former '68 owner, I am peeved by the rear markers on this kit. They are correct for the early build cars and the "factory" Wimbledon White race cars, but incorrect for the stock 68 1/2 GT 428 CJ cars. They were all built late in the year after Ford changed the quarter panel and the marker.

Mine is warped on the opposite side but very similar. I'm going to keep mine taped to see if it helps. Thank you so much for the offer 1
Sidney Schwartz Posted June 16, 2023 Posted June 16, 2023 I asked Revell for a replacement part two weeks ago and today got an email saying the part is on its way. I had expected to have to pay for it, but I got no request from them to do so.

MrMiles Posted June 21, 2023 Author Posted June 21, 2023 I got around to checking the hood and the new one sits perfect. I'm so glad they replaced it
