RodBurNeR Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I got into a challenge again with 9 other guys from Omaha. At the show yesterday, we all bought a POS for under $5 to put in the pot. We all drew numbers after the show and pictures were taken of each build. Whatever number you drew, you ended up with that model. The rules are to rebuild it to "nice as you can" from a POS glue bomb, built up/junker. You may not like what you end up with, but the rules are rules.... I ended up with a '70 Plymouth GTX and NO am sorry, but I am not a muscle car guy....but I have built some before. What I would like is if anyone can help, I need some COOL reference. I don't want to build it stock and don't want to build it muscle. If anyone has photos , ideas or what-not's... I would appreciate them. thanks! here is what I have to work with.... MISSING dash board, steering wheel MISSING air grabber from hood MISSING 3 wheels MISSING engine Now, the car was SUPPOSED to be complete, so yes I am griping a little.
Tom Jackson Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Chop The top mold the bumpers in get some pinners and astros and slam it or get a fire cracker
RodBurNeR Posted February 24, 2009 Author Posted February 24, 2009 Tom , if it was ONLY a '69......I would!
Jantrix Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 (edited) Bob, I'd put an ad in the WANTED section for a dashboard. The rest you can wing easily enough. I'd create a teenager's primered streetrod. A little rust in the rockers and along the bottom of the rear window. Miss-matched front fenders and a primered hood. Find any old period Mopar mill and some Cragar 5 spokes and you are off and running. And by the way, the fact that you drew a non-TRaK-able 1970 is very amusing. Edited February 24, 2009 by Jantrix
roadhawg Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Considering what you got, this might be an idea.................... http://www.moparts.org/moparts/picture/yards/6/70GTX.jpg
RodBurNeR Posted February 24, 2009 Author Posted February 24, 2009 Rob, I know lol I was hoping to get the '53 Ford Pickup! Your idea sounds fun to do....hmmm! Tommy, that's way too much work lol thanks though!
Custom Hearse Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Correct me if I'm wrong, but does it have two rear bumpers?
RodBurNeR Posted February 24, 2009 Author Posted February 24, 2009 This is the one from last year. We displayed them at our Mid America Summer Nat's show in July. People voted and the winner got $5bucks from each entrant and I think a trophy? The only thing mine was missing was a windsheild, so I made one out of another one I cut down to fit. all pics of it in progress, I did a lot of detailing, scratching and bashing http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc...o/1983-mustang/ Here is how it looked at the show... here are photos of everyone else's models. http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc...nd-annual-mid-/ This year , it's the same thing. They are due for October for our Omaha swapmeet/contest.
RodBurNeR Posted February 24, 2009 Author Posted February 24, 2009 Correct me if I'm wrong, but does it have two rear bumpers? they look similar, but they are definately not the same. I would say they are front and back.
Casey Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 they look similar, but they are definately not the same. I would say they are front and back. The bumper with the L-shaped rub strips on its face is the front bumper. It also has (had?) clear parking/signal lights, whereas the rear bumper just has the cast back-up light detail. I have a spare dash and steering wheel (and I think the "open" AG door) you can have, in the same original lime color to boot. PM me with your shipping address, please. Now, on to the model. I'm guessing from your sig pic and avatar you're into traditional hot rods and customs, so why not do this car up that way, too? Do the rules allow you to kitbash or must you only use the kit-stock parts? Think muscle and custom, like the Rapid Transit Caravan '70 B-body: http://www.stevenjuliano.com/cars_rts_70rr.htm ...or a mild custom with a panel paint job, wide whites, chrome reverse wheels, nosed, decked- the possibilities are endless.

evilone Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Make it a curbside bro.GO all out on the paint and black out the windows and you should be good to go .
RodBurNeR Posted February 24, 2009 Author Posted February 24, 2009 Casey, I like the 1:1 you sent link for! I also like the idea of doing it '60s mild ...even if it's not really a good year it might look pretty cool! PM sent, thank you much! evilone, not a bad idea either....but I bet they would call me a wuss for taking shortcuts lol davezinn....yeah really a muscle car! I guess this is a good way to get out of my funk though. I have been struggling to get something done. thanks everyone!
Custom Hearse Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 they look similar, but they are definately not the same. I would say they are front and back. I've never owned this kit (nor a 1:1, durn shuckings), so I've never seen the front bumper for one. Thanks for clearing that up for me, I'm a little scatter brained!!!!
RodBurNeR Posted February 24, 2009 Author Posted February 24, 2009 thanks for the reply's guys! I got emails too, very cool! I think I have it in mind now what to do. I won't say just yet, but I have already dumped a bunch of stuff in the box with it to be used. In the beginning , I was going to build it up to get it done....just to get it over and be involved in the challenge. Now I have decided to build it as if it's a car I love! I am getting excited , so let the paint fly! Will start a thead on the bench soon.
RodBurNeR Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 thread started, never posted in the drag models section before. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18315
RodBurNeR Posted February 27, 2009 Author Posted February 27, 2009 Casey, the parts arrived today thanks a TON! I am starting to feel much better about this build now that it's pretty much complete. The parts look un-used, I hope you didn't ruin a kit on my behalf. thanks again!
