Flash Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 I recall an article regarding how to correct the large wheel opening in the AMT 73/74 Malibu stock car, possibly in Scale Auto Magazine. Does anyone have that article they can share or at least the dimensions on the cut out to reduce the opening?
Shark Posted June 28, 2023 Posted June 28, 2023 You might try looking at PPP 1970's 5 slot wheels. If their opening is too small, it's easier to make them bigger instead of smaller
Flash Posted June 28, 2023 Author Posted June 28, 2023 I'm referring to the large wheel well opening. Sorry for the confusion.
Shark Posted June 29, 2023 Posted June 29, 2023 Someone recently did a WIP on here for a street car he was converting from the AMT kit. Try looking through that section and that might be a help. If I find it, I will let you know. Years ago, MCW corrected and cast that body, but it has been discontinued. You may still be able to find one.

Flash Posted June 29, 2023 Author Posted June 29, 2023 Thank you for the help. Unfortunately, I'm retired and have a limited budget, so resin replacement bodies are not an option at this time. Besides having to explain to the Boss why there is an unknown package mixed in with her Amazon packages. Lol!!!! In the article you provided, the rear wheel opening was handled in the same manner as the article I'm looking for but the front wheel well was different. The article I'm referring to the front wheel well was done in a similar manner as the rear. however I don't recall if the opening was sectioned at the rear and moved forward, front and moved back or sectioned front and back moving in ward.

I have never done anything like you are attempting, but You can possibly measure this pic to determine which way the wheelwell has to move? Or better yet, resize it and print it at 1/25 scale (or to match the size of the body you have) and use it as a template. Edited July 1, 2023 by NOBLNG
1930fordpickup Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Jim what GM has the same wheel openings as this car, or close to it? Maybe there is a model of that you could use to match what you want.
Flash Posted July 6, 2023 Author Posted July 6, 2023 I'm will try the 75 Laguna for comparison. Still hoping someone will be able to locate the article in question. I believe the author was building Donnie Alisons Blue/Gold #88 Chevelle / Malibu. I had saved a copy of the article for future reference but apparently misplaced it in a recent move.
