Sonorandog Posted June 28, 2023 Posted June 28, 2023 This was my first attempt at a big rig. I started the build with a completely different idea, I kept changing my mind as the build progressed. I’m glad I went with the hot rod approach. I’m very happy with it. Being my first big rig there was a pretty steep learning curve involved. I have learned a lot things to not do again. I chopped up the body a lot and printed a number of items for it. The wheels and tires, grill and mirrors are the visible 3-D printed items. The engine has a couple items I had to print. Not because I wanted to, but due to the kit missing a few engine parts. It was easier to replicate them via printing, then going through the hassle of trying to get a replacement part from AMT. I have had three different paint jobs on this one. First was a dark red/brown color, it was just too much truck for that color. Then it was blue but I ruined that one with the clear coat, in truth I always questioned that color, and finally the black metallic. 4
Perspect Scale Modelworks Posted June 29, 2023 Posted June 29, 2023 Nice. Black was definitely the way to go.
Rattlecan Dan Posted June 29, 2023 Posted June 29, 2023 The silvery beast looks like it weighs Ten Tons. Cool looking build.
Sonorandog Posted June 30, 2023 Author Posted June 30, 2023 Thanks. I enjoyed building this enough I just bought two more trucks, this one again and the CF Freight White Frightliner. Look forward to starting them, someday.
spencer1984 Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 Awesome work on this! Be careful, though - once you start in on trucks, it starts a whole new thing that takes up way more bench space ?
cifenet Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 This is refreshing! I think the black metallic looks the best to me and has the sporty feel to it as well. Nice job reworking it out till you are satisfied.
