LVZ2881 Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 for maore accurate exhaust manifolds. Is there a paint, preferably brush or rattle can that will give a fairly close look for cast iron?
Spike Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 there is a spray paint by duplicolor(?) thats cast, but im not sure how close it looks to cast iron
James W Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Shop the paint isle of the local auto parts store. There's all kinds of paints fo duplicating different finishes.
Privateer Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 The easiest way I know of duplicating cast iron is to paint the part flat black or flat dark gray and when dry buff it with graphite powder. Graphite powder is available at hardware stores to lubricate locks, it is also known as dry lubicrant.
roadhawg Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Go to your local automotive machine shop and grab a spray can of "cast iron". Less than 10 bucks. Its a big can, should last for years!
old-hermit Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 (edited) Plasti-Kote #285 Rebuilder's Cast Finish Gray, available in most auto parts stores. Fast dry lacquer and can be applied directly to plastic without harm. Edited March 8, 2009 by old-hermit
Olle F Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Humbrol #53 "Gun Metal" enamel works for me. I pick up some of the thick sludge from the bottom of the can, and stipple it on with a stiff brush. It gives you a nice "cast iron" texture that can also be weathered with some rust pastels, if necessary.
diymirage Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 i always paint it aluminum then dry brush on black and (if needed) rust
Sully Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 If you want to give your part the look of Cast Iron, you can add a little talcum powder to your paint. Not only will if give you the texture of cast iron, it will also dull the gloss of the paint. Experment on an old part till you get the right mixture. An old tip from an old modeler....... Sully
