absmiami Posted October 12, 2023 Author Posted October 12, 2023 The kit has a well designed lower engine panel that hinges open - so this detail will be visible once everything is completed … that doesn’t mean that I’m not crazy - Pierre will finish two more Alfas before this Alfa sees paint …
Pierre Rivard Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 But Pierre's Alfas will not have such beautifully and accurately detailed engines!
absmiami Posted October 13, 2023 Author Posted October 13, 2023 well maybe that's because Pierre has a tighter grip on sanity ...
absmiami Posted October 17, 2023 Author Posted October 17, 2023 Once the rear eng mount was done i added .05 master Club bolts to the ridge between the crank case and the sump - the resin printed bolts are easy to trim to length with a Xacto - will have to do this to the right engine side … 1
absmiami Posted October 17, 2023 Author Posted October 17, 2023 The tubes in between the superchargers are crank case breathers - where to they come from ?
absmiami Posted October 17, 2023 Author Posted October 17, 2023 They curl back behind the superchargers into posts welded onto the base of the case left and right - here …
absmiami Posted October 17, 2023 Author Posted October 17, 2023 The posts are made fr .50 plastic tube fr the old pack of mode railroad styrene tube and flanges made fr Evergreen strip - Evergreen does not make plastis tube small than .080 - does anyone have a ready source of smaller dia plastic tube ? Would come in handy …. 1
Rattlecan Dan Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 You've gone over the top. Museum quality fabrication. I am in awe. I'm going to make a separate file for this build. What a tutorial! Doubt I'll ever have such skill, but great to look at.
absmiami Posted October 17, 2023 Author Posted October 17, 2023 Then we must come up with a name for this file … thinking …
absmiami Posted October 18, 2023 Author Posted October 18, 2023 Every so often you need a really small hole - Drill Bit City sells sets of micro drill bits as small as .0010 - they are brittle and prone to break at the worst possible time - think you should them w some lubricant - although i usually forget - and i only use these on plastic and resin - for the supercharger assembly i managed to drill .0011 holes into these three resin bolt heads - these are special bolts located on the housing that contains the spur gear that drives the impellors - cool - but you won’t notice them on the finished engine unless you are playing w an I phone ..
absmiami Posted October 18, 2023 Author Posted October 18, 2023 When i noticed these bolts on the Don Lee Special - at Amelia - the first thing i thought of was Drill Bit City …
Pierre Rivard Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Beautiful detailing. This engine is...nuts!
Pierre Rivard Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Wish I could find MasterClub stuff. Basically unobtainium these days...
Bernard Kron Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Great to see you taking this FPP model to another level. It provides both an appreciation for the insight and skill you bring to the basis Fernando provided you, and also an appreciation for the work Pinto himself has done in providing us with such kits.
absmiami Posted October 20, 2023 Author Posted October 20, 2023 Thanks - give fernando a nudge on his f book page - he finds it difficult to produce the kits w seperate frames and engine castings - and they are a little more difficult to build - but I’d like to see more …
absmiami Posted October 20, 2023 Author Posted October 20, 2023 (edited) Jim Stokes Restoration in the UK seems to be the go-to for your pre-war race car servicing and resto - and they have permitting me to post some photos fr their f book page - here’s an 8c block sans sump - glorious - hard to know how to paint my block to get this finish - sort of gun metal with some added ingredients … Edited October 20, 2023 by absmiami Correction
absmiami Posted October 20, 2023 Author Posted October 20, 2023 Turning my attention to the eng right side …. .05 M Club bolts lining the exhaust manifold flange - many - too many …
absmiami Posted October 21, 2023 Author Posted October 21, 2023 Stuff made for the cyl head front and back - flanges made from Evergreen .015 strip and cam cover caps punched from some more strip - the flanges have simulated bolts made from .012 nickel rod - gotta decide whether to add sim bolts to the cam caps - or try some super all RB Motion hardware …. The lines are .020 nickel - think they are oil lines …
