oldcarfan Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 (edited) I've been setting up my long postponed model building area and finally got it mostly done. Now comes the unpacking. On another subject, my dad is in the late stages of Alzheimer's and we cleaned out and sold their house a few months ago. While going through an old box from his garage this morning, I came across some stuff of Dad's from I think the 60s. He told me he used to build model cars and airplanes back then. He had a lot of cool stuff on his shelf when I was a kid, but it got lost along the way. There were a few started projects in the box and I pulled these out to look at. If anyone has an idea what they were based on, I'd like to know. Both are 1/25th scale. The big fender one was really busted up, but I put it back together. It looks like a mix of an MGTC and a LaSalle or something. The red one may be a mix of an Austin Healey and a Cobra, but that's a guess. I don't recognize the roof. I'm hoping to find the missing hood somewhere in the pile. Edit: Is there a thread to show off your model bench? Edited October 9, 2023 by oldcarfan
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 (edited) Looks like he was quite the customizer. The fat-fendered one definitely has a lot of Pyro/Lindberg Auburn bits, but I don't know what the rest of it is. Source kit, reissued many times: The little red coupe is definitely absolutely positively based on the ancient multi-piece-body Revell Austin Healey, with an extended Cobra-esque nose. I'm looking at a frame here on my bench right now, and it's identical with your photo. This is the source kit, also reissued several times: Edited October 9, 2023 by Ace-Garageguy
Street Rod Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 I can’t help you with your models, but there is a thread in the General Automotive Talk category just below called “Show Us Your Workbench” you can check out. 1
Deathgoblin Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 The top one looks like a mashup using parts from the Pyro Auburn Speedster. The bottom is a heavily customized Ford Cobra, but I'm not sure what manufacturer. I like the bottom one - It's very Ferrari looking.
