Smart-Resins Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 I picked up a can of the one coat purple, pink and white. A friend told me the white has great trouble laying down. Has anyone used it ? Can anyone give me any words of cautions or tips or what ever. Thanks. Jody
Draggon Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I picked up a can of the one coat purple, pink and white. A friend told me the white has great trouble laying down. Has anyone used it ? Can anyone give me any words of cautions or tips or what ever. Thanks. Jody I used it over Tamiya White fine surface primer with no trouble whatsoever. It went down smoothly, and over the white primer coverage was no problem. However, it does seem a bit translucent, and I think it would not cover very well over colors other than white. Good luck!
Matt LeBlanc Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I had the sme problem with mine very see through.
MR BIGGS Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Never used it. But what I use is hok white and it goes over anything even primer gray. Or what you could use that's even cheaper is plain white primer, all you got to do is wet sand it and clear right over. That's about the whitest you can get. And it won't turn yellow.
Smart-Resins Posted March 10, 2009 Author Posted March 10, 2009 Thanks everyone for the replies. I will be using the duplicolor auto white primer before laying down the pearl white, so hopefully I wont have any problems. MR>BIGGS I have eyed the HOK paints. I cant get them anywheres here in the can, only the bottle and they are exspensive! Of course so arnt the models starting at $20 for a heavy chevy ect. Perhaps once I get a better air brush I can order them online? I am looking forward to trying them, thats for sure! Jody
Guest promodmerc Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Jody, You can get HOK here in spray cans, 2oz bottles, & pre mixed for airbrush use. http://shop.blackgoldweb.com/main.sc;jsess...85.qscstrfrnt03
Fletch Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Jody, the Testors "White Lightning" needs to be treated just as you would a candy color. It is extremely translucent. If your base coat isn't perfect don't expect the Testors to correct it as I will 100% guarantee you'll be stripping it down to start over. And yes this is from experience. As many have suggested if you can at all use HoK, you'll have much better results. IMHO
