Vintage chromoly Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 Hello all. I’ve started on a rendition of Jimmy Addison’s silver bullet, GTX, test mule car. I’m using the Revell Sox and Martin GTX kit as a base. I’ll try to keep posting pics as I go. the 1:1 version had the quarter panels “flared” at the wheel opening. Most renditions skip this step. I used a hair dryer and stretched the openings, and then some glazing putty to smooth things out. anyhow, here it is: pop 3
Vintage chromoly Posted November 25, 2023 Author Posted November 25, 2023 Upon mock-up, the driveshaft was about 1/8” too short. I sectioned the center out and fabbed a new shaft, using the kit u-joints. 3
Vintage chromoly Posted November 25, 2023 Author Posted November 25, 2023 The 1:1 SB had the rear seat removed. i sectioned out the rear seat and built a “back seat delete” panel from styrene stock. I plan on using embossing powder to replicate the carpet that was in the 1:1 version. 3
R. Thorne Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 Steve Magnante’s video of his build of this car might be of some assistance to you in your endeavors. 2
dragcarz Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 I’m liking this build Robert, it’s those little details that make the finished product, looking really good! 1
Vintage chromoly Posted November 25, 2023 Author Posted November 25, 2023 (edited) The 1:1 version used 4 Cadillac mufflers In an attempt to control the noise. I made the pipes and turn downs from 1/8” styrene rod. This is my attempt: Edited November 25, 2023 by Vintage chromoly 3
Zippi Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 Looking good so far on the 67 GTX. I got this kit in a couple weeks ago. 1
Vintage chromoly Posted November 28, 2023 Author Posted November 28, 2023 I’ve been working on the exhaust. I decided to pin the pieces, as there was way too much happening to try to fit it up without support. here’s a pic of the pinned parts: 2
Vintage chromoly Posted November 28, 2023 Author Posted November 28, 2023 And, here’s the fit up, minus the crossover. I’ll probably just glue the crossover in without pins. It’s a small piece. 2
R. Thorne Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 Nice work on, possibly, the hardest part to build on this car. 1
dragstk Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 I always thought the real car was so cool. You have a good start on this. I;ll be keeping an eye on your build. Good luck! 1
ybsluos Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Looking spot on Robert. I was lucky enough to see Jimmy’s car at Cobo Hall Detroit about 10 years ago. Keep on rocking your awesome replica! 2
Vintage chromoly Posted December 6, 2023 Author Posted December 6, 2023 A little more detailing on the exhaust pipes. I made the crossover and fitted it up. my Alclad should be here tomorrow. I’m looking forward to experimenting with it on this project. ? 2
Vintage chromoly Posted December 8, 2023 Author Posted December 8, 2023 I shot the exhaust with Alclad, today. I used “Magnesium” on the pipes and Aluminum on the mufflers. I used some Tamiya panel line black to wash it a bit. it’s not done, but I like the way it’s turning out 4
dino246gt Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 WOW! that's a cool exhaust system, nice work man! 1

It makes test fitting so much easier, and more accurate. 1
Zippi Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 The exhaust looks really nice. Body color, whatya thinking? 1
