Lyle Willits Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 I'm building this as a hand-me-down car to the young man in the family, in the late 60's. It got painted Chevrolet Roman Red in the high school auto shop. The front seat was worn through years ago, so the kid got some newer seats at the salvage yard. The man told him he could have the seats from one of them death trap muscle cars for $25, but he'd have to remove them himself and it was up to him to get the blood stains off them. The kid's dad had this full race 409 in the garage for the past 4 years, so he plans to help his son swing it into the old heap soon. The kids in the school autobody shop did a pretty good job straightening everything and even nosed and decked it .
george 53 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 The Cutlass seats look GREAT in there,Lyle. Was a decal used for the upper part of the door panels? That kid is gonna have a BLAST in that ride!!!
RJWood Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 This is looking great so far. its the second one I've seen painted red, and really fits the body style nicely. How does that 409 fit the chassis, did you have to do any modifacations? Nice story, could it be from personal experance?
Foxer Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 so the home ec girls gave you the secret to blood removal i see.. looks like it all came out well. The boys really did a good job on the paint. Think they'd like to do some dark blue on a 49 Merc? That would be good training for them.. dark colors are tough. When I get the 53 Buick trim I'll give Mr. Metalbend at the school a call when it's in trim...
Lyle Willits Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 Was a decal used for the upper part of the door panels? The door/side panel decals come in the kit. RJ - I have no idea yet how the 409 fits. So far, it's still sitting on the bench. Test fitting shows that there is plenty of room for it though.
noname Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Now this I REALLY like. I hope he takes it down the 1320 to see what it will do.
Slim Louis Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Really a good looking model! Nice story, too! I like nice stories!
