RodBurNeR Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I was hoping someone here has used this paint on a model. If so...did you clear coat it? I used it years ago and cleared it with Dupli Color Acrylic Lacquer, but it wrinkled up on me...yea I know it's because of the enamel vs. lacquer.....but back then I didn't. Now I want to know if there is a clear that I can put over it without ruining it. TIA
MR BIGGS Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I have used them all. the only one I stay away from is the satin blk or blk primer. they seem like they never dry. the only top coat I use is Urethain. Never tried it with anything else. But Urethain I the only stuff that can go over anything, unless you go enamel over lacquer.

I don't use those soft paints either, I agree with you. I wonder if some Krylon clear I have would work on it? I am not looking to go to any great lengths here, I just might clear the paint and polish it out a little. The paint it'self "etched" on me so I am wanting to smooth it out a bit. I can polish the paint....but I don't want to rub through.
LVZ2881 Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Dupli-color does make a can of Engine Enamel Clear that goes with the engine enamel colors. I have used it and found that it gives a nice gloss, but definitely needs polishing due to orange peel, but that could also be my spray technique.
roadhawg Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 (edited) First, I wouldn't recommend an enamel based clear, as it will yellow over time. I've become a believer in Future acrylic floor finish....that stuff rocks! Any acrylic clear should be ok. Automotive urethane IS the best to use, but #1, its pricey, and #2, use a respirator. Tom Kren Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 RIGHT OUT OF THE CAN AND JUST USE RUBBING COMPOUND.
RodBurNeR Posted March 19, 2009 Author Posted March 19, 2009 RIGHT OUT OF THE CAN AND JUST USE RUBBING COMPOUND. you are good Tom! I would rub through the paint, I have to use clear to protect myself haha!
