simonr Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Hi Men,...a question, Which one is that already built 917K?...Is this an old 1/32 MPC 917K? Nice project, though! Simón P. Rivera Torres I REALLY BELIVE IN "PRACTICING WHAT YOU PREACH" SO LET ME START THE PROGRESS PHOTOS FOR THIS BUILD. PROJECT: 1970 LE MANS WINNER -917K...K IS FOR KICK A!!! THE PARTS ON THIS FUJIMI ARE STRAIT AND DETAILD. MOLD LINES R MINIMAL EXEPT ON THE ENGINE COVER TOP IT HAD TWO CIRCLES AS BIG AS A QUATER AND I THOUGHT IT WAS PART OF THE BODY, BUT DID NOT MADE SENCE, SO LOOK AT REFERENCES AND OUT THEY WENT, SANDED THEM OUT. I GOT THIS KIT SO LONG AGO THAT I FORGOT THAT I EVEN GET A STUDIO 27 DETAIL METAL PARTS FOR IT. OHHH YEAH TO MY SURPRISE I WILL START THE BODY, SANDING, BONDO, AND PREP FOR PRIMER. HOPEFULLY IT WILL BE READY FOR RED MONDAY. INCREDIBLE THE AMOUNT OF PARTS THIS THING HAS FOR BEING A CURBSIDE. I WILL BE CHECKING IF I CAN GET AN ENGINE KIT FOR IT BUT ONLY IF I CAN FINISH IT FOR JUNE 12, IF NOT IT WILL STAY CURB SIDE, BUT INTERESTING THAT THIS FUJIMY...THE ENGINE COVER IS REMOVABLE AND IT SHOWS DETAIL TOP OF THE FLAT 12...ENOFF TO GIVE AN IDEA ALRIGHT...ROUND ONE, TIN!!!!!!! TIN !!!!
fordsixty Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 good luck CAL. if it were me, i would go with the Minolta/A-from Peugeot 956 GT-1 LM. decisions decisions.
3men2s Posted March 30, 2009 Author Posted March 30, 2009 Simon, that's a die cast I got many years ago and promised to do a 1:24 scale model of it one day.....when I saw the fujimi, I almost cry men. and for a good price, because those fisher models were out of my legue and pocket. progress this weekend on this cucaracha. Question, I know this car had two engine set ups the 16 cil. and the 12 cil. WITH WHICH ENGINE DID IT RAN THE RACE IN 1970 ? I sopoused with the 12 but saw in a site a picture of the 16 and sais engine taken out of the 1970 917 winner of lemans and it gad me thinking.
Foxer Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I have it narrowed down to one of these. hahah Cal ... gonna take you 0 to 60 days to figure that one out. Here's what you do ... 1 first, remove all duplicates and place in a separate pile. 2. Then, eliminate every one you've built in the past and locate in pile 2. 3. Load up a full sized paint brush with carbon fiber black paint and stand back 12 feet 4. Flick the brush for a spackle finish paint job towards the stack. 5. Now eliminate all boxes larger than a Tamiya as in violation of the rulebook 6. After counting the paint flecks, the one with the most carbon fiber wins!
3men2s Posted March 30, 2009 Author Posted March 30, 2009 fordsixty you got your hands full, how r u going to finish by the due date is going to be something to see, is a custom job WOW. Just the bumper alone gave me a headaque. LOT'S of work. bur checking your work We know it will rock. The FIAT, I would do the same you did for the back wheel widening to the front and then put one of those head cutter spoilers in the front from those group 5 racers from the 70's. and finished in MARTINI COLORS. LOOKS GREAT!!!! NOW I KNOW FROM WHAT LEG YOU LIMP !!!! spanish say translated. we know what is your style. wonder if it was you who did a new vw look like a gt1 porsche race car?

It was always a flat 12, basically it was two 911 flat six engines put together. 1970 car had the 4.5l version. BTW it's the 40th Anniversary of the legendary 917 Edited March 30, 2009 by CAL

CAL Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 MY CHOICE 1. NEWMAN PORSCHE 2. MAZDA 3. PEGEOT ANY OF THESE I was considering the 905, Bentely Blower, and the ultimate sports car in history 956/962.

JHDrew Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 OK, I'm in for a Chaparral 2F curbside by Fisher. Put me on the reminder list.
fordsixty Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 time or an update. i was able to put in a good bit of work, on the torino, this weekend. built the entire cage out of .080" and .062" evergreen round stock. made the seat brace out of .040" angle stock. the seat is out of the revell '64 thunderbolt. the seatback was too high, so i cut it down. i will probably get it painted this week ( semi gloss black ). also got the grill finished up, still needs the screen and headlight covers. i will add these after the body is painted. the cage fits very well. looks good. not 100% accurate because i had to take certain liberties. i only have two pictures of the interior. since it will all be in black, it will be hard to see the difference. that is it for now. how about other people's builds? later
ScaleCentral Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Sounds cool considering most of my stash is LeMans. I have two kits which I already started but haven't gotten very far, will that be okay? They are the Quikskins Cadillac LMP and the Monogram Mercedes 300SLR with Harold Bradford conversion. I'll post some pics of them in the next couple of days. Nic
CAL Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 The kit I wanted to build is lost in the mail, been 6 weeks. I might have to make another selection.
