Hmann68 Posted April 7, 2024 Posted April 7, 2024 Hi all…finished up Polar Lights’ Don Schumacher FC today. This is the first Polar Lights kit I’ve done and it was a handful to get thru. Tons of fitment issues and poor molding to deal with but it’s a great looking car when done. The body required a ton of prep, it was a mess with bad lines, sink marks etc. I was surprised at how bad it was out of the box. Nevertheless it’s done and I’m very happy with it! Paint is Tamiya TS54 and TS13 clear over those finicky decals which actually came out pretty darn good with a lot of solution. Added plug wires and a couple of fuel lines for fun. I used the polished 5 spokes up front simply because I like the way they look. Thanks for looking and let me know what you think! ?? 15 1
Nitro330 Posted April 7, 2024 Posted April 7, 2024 Really sharp build Christoper! And you're right, those kits can be a bit of work to get looking nice like this. Great job. 1

Yeah Nah Posted April 8, 2024 Posted April 8, 2024 Super job on this despite the obstacles Christopher. Nice work! 1
sflam123 Posted April 8, 2024 Posted April 8, 2024 Very nice!! I think I've built at least one of every Polar Lights funny car released. The frames were all a PITA, and the decals were extremely fragile, but with patience and perseverance they build in t a very respectable model. You did an excellent job on this one! 1

The worst part of the job was getting the tins installed and lined up inside the body! I almost quit, but walked away from it for a couple days and tried again then ? 1

bogger44 Posted April 10, 2024 Posted April 10, 2024 You overcame the obstacles these kits have really well. They do look great when completed, yours is no exception. I wrestled this kit to completion several years back and have a number of others to build, but have yet to get the ambition to start another one lol.

Yes it was a tricky build for sure Bogger. It’ll be a while before I tackle another but they do look great when done and they do offer a neat assortment of cars. I think the main difficulty is the vague instructions that require you to do a lot of test fittings and guessing. My main disappointment was the terribly molded body.

Sledsel Posted April 15, 2024 Posted April 15, 2024 Finicky eh? Great, something to look forward to since I have a sealed kit to do. Yours came out pretty darn good to me!!! 1

Realized I never got the steering linkage installed before these pics lol, but it’s on now. Test fit the body tins thoroughly, you may have to trim the rear one a bit like I did, to get the body to close down over the frame ? 1

I read somewhere that they originally had plans to tool other bodies to fit this chassis possibly Camaro and nova. It would be a really good move for round 2 to do this. By the way you did a fine job on this one the color is spot on.
