diymirage Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 hey guys i kinda stole the idea for the paintjob from a camaro i've seen on here i used a peice of old screen door to get the scales on the side of the car this will be my first polished model, my first time using putty (i removed and filled in the front license plate from the bumper) and my first time foiling (what a PITA) hope you like it so far and as always, suggestions/comments are welcome
RJWood Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Nice work Eelco, It has the look of carbon fiber. I like the result. You did a great job on the foil work, I could never guess it was your first try, looks like you got it down. Can't wait to see more of your progress.
george 53 Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Well El, if you were goin for the "fishscale" look, ya got it down! Doesn't really look like C/F to me, it's too big a pattern, but that's just me. I knew a guy in Hi school who had a Yellow 70 Challenger, and he did the same thing in a green/blue spray fade out.His was on the shoulder line up to the top edge of the fender. We called it the party car, caz he had Bubbles and orbs on it too. It LOOKED like an acid party!
Foxer Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Great job there. That paint job is awesome! ...defiantly has a scaly look to it...
diymirage Posted March 28, 2009 Author Posted March 28, 2009 thanks guys i was really going for the fishy/reptilian look i tried polishing it up but im not yet fully satisfied with those results at least now i know how to go about it (thanks RJWood) im thinking i might be able to get a nice carbon fibre look by painting this same pattern in different shades several times im gonna have to try that some time. the foiling actually looks better in the pics then in real life i think i may have polished through it on a few places but all toghether im not dissatisfied with that result im thinking of foiling the front bumper aswell since i had to remove all the chrome to fill the licensplate section
GOTH KUSTOMS Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I like's this it looks kewl as all get out, I was wondering why black till I saw the side, thats just kewl...
diymirage Posted March 31, 2009 Author Posted March 31, 2009 tried wiring up the engine today and im not sure about it i used the wires from a LAN cable they look nice but are a little bit hard to form ill post some pics when i can snatch the wifeys phone
diymirage Posted March 31, 2009 Author Posted March 31, 2009 got the phone as you can tell the wires push the hood up a tiny but i might have to remove the dizzy and trim it down a little
Mike601 Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Nice!!! I was wondering what that huge intake scoop would look like if I had used it. I saw that camaro, your car reminded me of it. keep up the good work can't wait to see this one finished. Mike

diymirage Posted May 14, 2009 Author Posted May 14, 2009 Nice!!! I was wondering what that huge intake scoop would look like if I had used it. I saw that camaro, your car reminded me of it. keep up the good work can't wait to see this one finished. Mike thanks i chose the big intake because i dont like the way the stock hood looks (just my personal prefference) plus i thought , a car with a custom paint job like this needs a decent engine i did some work on the interior this week but nothing too much too mention i also changed the tires to some larger ones in the rear im hoping to get some better progress pics over the weekend also, ive decided to tint the glass in this one i was going to ask is the dist on front of most mopar's and yours is on the back or is it just the hemi's and 440 not sure to be honoust i just put the dizzy where the instructions told me too (this is the 440 by the way)
george 53 Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 El, ALL Chrysler R(383) and RB(440) and Hemi blocks have the distributor located at the front of the engine. The LA series engines(340 360) had it located in the rear. It just MAY be a tricked out 340! Either way,it looks good!
diymirage Posted May 14, 2009 Author Posted May 14, 2009 you know, i think the decals do say 340 so well call it a 340
diymirage Posted May 18, 2009 Author Posted May 18, 2009 got a little more work done over the weekend i did most of the interior and got the stance just about right im waiting on some window tint film to show up in the mail and then ill finish her up
diymirage Posted August 9, 2009 Author Posted August 9, 2009 got her done today and moved her to the under glass section http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=22123
